Nice :) You have a similar setup to mine minues the cards. I think I'm pretty CPU limited for the most part, so I'm gonna see if I can get a good OC out of mine once I set up my water system.

I have not had any stabality problems what so ever, a few game's that aren't compatible. But no stability problems. Rock solid for me.

Isnt 1 6800GT or Ultra simply faster then 2x 6600GT in SLi?
or am I simply remembering wrong?
I would imagine it would be cheaper and less hassle in that case (heard some mumblings about issues with some games in SLi).

Nice tho, good luck with it :)

1 6800 gt is more powerfull than 2 6600 gt's.

Yea, right now it would be a little slower, dual 6600gt's might be faster when the drivers get more optimized/mature

Maybe with Anti Aliasing, But if you dont use it and play at 1600x1200 without AA, They are more powerful fillrate or just as powerful. Look at anandtechs latest benchmarks and do some comparisons with and without anti aliasing.

 you cant think to buy a recent graphics cards, to play in high res,but without any eyecandy effect.

FSAA and AA are as important as geometric performances today .
And even more if you play on medium resolution. 1152x864 without FSAA is crap. 1280x1024 too

My 2 x 6600GT PCIe SLI are faster then 1 6800U.

3dmark2k5 - 6637 using x32 OS forceware 71.24.

yikes :) I thought a 6800ultra would perform better than 2 6600gt's in SLI... but that's probably just at stock speed :) so how high are your clockspeeds? I'd recommend watercooling ;) some guy reached 600mhz on the 6600gt's core with waterc. and AS5 :)
but it looks good ;) good luck with your new setup! :)

Hey, here's a crappy pic of my new rig. Finally got all my parts in and during setup had 0 problems.

I'm forced to use onboard sound atm, so my performance is around 10% less then it should be. :( Loving the setup though, much better then my previous setup with a 9800pro.

Oh and I had a big grin when I saw the "Multi-GPU enabled" message. :D

Bench that with real world settings and the SLI 6600's go down.
Don't tell me you ply at 1024x768 no AA no AF.

Sorry bout a 6800 GT is the better choice. There's really no reason to buy a 6600 GT SLI setup. More expensive, more power need and problems since games not supported by the driver run like crap.

Buying a System with one 6600GT and adding another later whn you got cash/need is ok but just buying 2 6600GT'S is ridiculous IMO.

You know I had planned on doing his as well, but I find it hard to beleive that 2 6600 gt's are faster then 1 6800 ultra.

I was almost going to do it and a friend of mine talked me out of it, I think I'll wait till i can score at least 2 6800gt's..

I would of just gotten 1x 6800GT PCIe and put it in, then saved up and got another one which means 2x6800GT's!!!

It's not that bad unless he games atr 1280x1024 on games that eat up alot of system memory really. I am sure at 1024x768 @ 4xAA/16xAF it performs pretty great. Hell probably even at 1156x864 with the same settings. It'd be interesting to actually see some high resolution charts with 2xAA at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 resolution. Because honestly at those resolution 2x AA would look very nice still.

I'm not saying 2 6600GT's are a wonderful value. But there are plenty of situations that I have seen myself that they are viable compared to a single 6800GT. They do have more shading power than a 6800Ultra let alone a 6800GT, And more fillrate. So I find it plausable that if you stay within its framebuffer limitations it could very well be faster in many instances.
I dont see 4xAA/16xAF as the only gaming settings currently. Thats all.

I'm curious to see what kind of results come up at 1280x1024 which is my primary resolution for gaming, if there not bad that's something I would defintely look into.

Anyone happen to know of a link that has a really good comparison?

Problem with this is, they seem like there super hard to find! Where those 6600gt's are all over the place!

they are less expensive by 20 dollares here, and they use less power, and are just as fast as a 6800u with no aa and af.
i think the new pcie express 6800nu is the best solution though($600 dollares for two cards that will kick the ass of every single card solution on the market)

Yeah but who on ear plays without AF and AA these days. Wich such an expensive system?
I don't say a 6600GT SLI system is bad. It's just more expensive compared to a 6800GT.
And yes 6800NU SLI sounds very good indeed.
