Hey guys,

Just wondering if I could get some help. I just recently purchased a bfg 6800 OC card upgraded from a geforce4 ti4200(old school). The problem I am having is that there isnt much of a performance difference at all. My computer specs are gigbayte GA-7nnxp Mobo/Barton 2500+ overclocked to 3200+, 768 pc-3200 ram(geil Ultra Dragon) 200gig sata drive. I cant figure it out. I ran aquamark03 before and after test and I got 49,748 with ti4200 and 50,744 with 6800oc. This is driving me nuts.. I dont understand it. I just dropped 300 bones on this card and I feel like it was a waste.

Any input would be very helpful.

P.S. yes I have installed all of the latest drivers and whatnot.. AA is turned off etc.

hmm.. very strange, how are games? Or 3dmark?

Which drivers are you using right now?

Are you sure about your score on the geforce4? It seems kind of high since I can only get around 49k max for my current setup.

Also, it might show more in the GPU score since the overall score seems to be just the FPS

I can't even hit that Aquamark score with a FX5900 and an overclocked 2600+. I hit somewhere around 30,000

I think you probably have the Aquamark score wrong

Not suggesting it's the same as your problem, but you may find some info in this thread useful...

Guys I know that I am definitely reading the aquamark score correctly.. it said 7,445 on the gpu and 7,500 on the cou with a total score of 49,000 at the bottom.. I will take a screen shot of both for u guys to see.

I used to have an ATI 9700 and now with a Gigabyte 6800gt and yes there is a difference, not to sound like an ass hole, but the 9700 would eat your Geforce 4 for a snack.

Run 3Dmark03 and 3dmark05 and you will see the difference. Aquamark is not a graphics card only dependant test to my knowledge

Ya I've heard Aquamark stresses your CPU about as much as your GPU (and that it supposedly loves P4's HT). My rig scores over 59k, and you have a higher OC on your GT.

I dont believe that I am arguing that there shouldn't be a difference? Im not quite sure I understand your post..

KK guys,

I just ran 3dmark05 and my score was 3708. Is that pretty decent on my setup? I will list it again below.

Gigabyte GA-7nnxp(nforce2) amd 3200+, 768 pc3200 Geil(Ultra Dragon) memory, 200gig Sata Seagate drive, and a BFG 6800, 128meg OC

Makes sense.
I'd go with kahloq's suggestion then for 3dmark03/05 run with it's default settings on both cards and you should see a big difference.

Also running games with the same options (if they're available on both cards) would show a performance jump.

Sounds about right to me, you need to play some games at least 1280 x 1024 with some AF & AA and then you'll see the difference. Also your new card supports DX9 features that the Ti4200 will miss out on in newer games. Forget benchmarks, go and play some games :)

Did you read the thread I linked you to in my last post it has some related info:-

aquamark is a cpu test

back in the yonder i had a 3000+ barton and 9700 pro and then i got the 6800gt my aquamark score was like exaclty the same, now i have 3500 64 and my aquamark score was like 20000 more points, fer real

Not disagreeing with you but, unless I'm reading it wrong? he has the 6800oc which is a mildly overclocked 128mb 12 pipe vanilla card, and a different animal to your 6800 GT 256mb 16pipe card

Don't get angry :D I was refering that there might be something wrong with your system and yes the 6800 should be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than the geforce4.

If you don't have any thing to lose on your hard driver and you have time you could always format and install a fresh copy of windows. :D
Good luck. :D

yep yep i have a regular 128 12 pipe card... I did the pipe unlock deal and I dont see any breaks or particles in game so I think my pipes are good=D anything else I can do to help jump performance a bit? I am running the 71.20b drivers also.
