I have been reading slashdot regularly for over a few years now, and I am finally fed up with the bull**** reporting they do. I am no longer going to read that bull****.

This is the straw that broke the camels back for me: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/10/1754238&tid=123&tid=103

Yes, lets enforce all of the laws except for the ones that the hippies and communists like to break. The "your rights online" section is a goddamned joke, and they claimed that their political section was balanced yet they would rarely report anything in favor of the right, but when they did report it, they would include something to attempt to debunk it in the report itself, example here (http://politics.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/09/2042211&tid=224&tid=219).

What is even funnier is after the election was called for Bush, I recall numerous posts on slashdot suggesting that if you don't agree with them, then you are fundamentally wrong no matter what you think, and one post that was given a +5 moderation suggested that all opposing oppinions needed to be "fixed." These guys are literally left wing versions of nazis.

Not only that but everytime they mention some foreign country such as china or iran sensoring their populations' internet, its always followed up by how much worse Amerca sensors the internet, and how much worse than china or iran the US is overall in regard to individual freedoms.

*sigh* What do you guys think? I myself am sticking to google tech news from now on. http://news.google.com/?ned=us&topic=t

The commentary. Yes, lets enforce all of the laws except for the ones that hippies and communists like to violate. In fact, since they aren't violent crimes, lets make extortion, larceny, and embezzlement legal too. Afterall these guys wont hurt anybody, they are just greedy, kinda like Martha Stewart. Not only that, but what does this have to do with your rights online? This is specifically addressed at pirated software being sold in the chinese markets.

And I really don't see your point on Bush iether, half the nation doesnt like him, what do you expect?

Umm...did you read the example article? This coming from a source that claims to be unbiased. Not only that but they were stupidly biased. Yes, a faithfully retyped copy of the original, which was also artificially aged so that it would look like it was a copy of the original. Right. And if you disagree with them then you need to be sent to a re-education camp.

This happens in both the comments and the articles themselves. If slashdots search system worked worth a damn I could show you.

What exacly is the problem with that article sounds like you dont read slashdot much.. there are very left leaning in what they choose to put on there site but they also say they are ballenced in there reporting... well the first thing they emphasis is "Soon to be ex-Secretary of Commerce Don Evans " what does this have anything todo with the subject at hand. he is still secretary of commerce. untill someone replaces him which could take 6+ months... sounds to me they are implying that since hes leaving anything he does is moot.

It's not only that they are left-leaning, but also the blatant editorializing they do. It's fine for an op-ed page, but not appropriate if you're attempting to report news.

I do read slashdot every morning. Actually I just scan the headlines. With slashdot I've learned that its more about implications than actual news reports. You keep that in mind when reading slashdot.

As for user comments, I couldt care less what they say. Personal opinions or the most part, and I can't argue with that, so I just ignore it.

Also, as far as news sources go, they are all bias. So I figured if I read multiple sources of the same story I get half a decent picture of what is being reported. I stopped watching TV news aver a year ago cause they are all retarded and make me sick with bias. And for the record, I also don't really give a crap about what happens overseas so lets leave it at that.

they are blatantly biased which is precisely why I don't spend time reading any articles from them...

clicking on your article link was the first time I have been to their site in about a year or so when I clicked on a link in a similar topic...

@ the end of the day its entirely up to you... if you feel a place is inconsistent with your views, step away...

I remember reading headlines after bush was elected chiming "how can X number of americans be so stupid" or something like that, but bush was elected with a majority and that kind of claim is an unfortunate cry for help...

I don't agree with many of our laws here (as you probably would know by now  ) but they are mainly laws which go against my personal convictions, or the retarded laws that give the RIAA and MPAA and other deep-pocketed organisations to d!ck over the regular consumers like us...

consider for example the forums @ b3d where there is a balance of left/right opinions and there is some quite intelligent discussion (more people actively participate in those forums)... here it is a little more right leaning than centrist but even then there are genuinely intelligent threads that sprout over the course of time on a regular basis :)

stick to these places and the let the cess-pools of the web alone

At first I just used to read slashdot because of the tech news stuff, and normally I don't care about bias, but they aren't really about tech news anymore. But just lately it has just been the same crap over and over again, nonstop politics.

Every other day its:

Your Rights Online: Feds punish someone for stealing software! They should go after the real criminals that commit crimes which I don't also commit instead!

Your Rights Online: China sensors internet, George Bush follows suit and orders google to not index abu ghraib pictures!

The scarry part is that some of the slashdot editors actually believe that the US orders its corporations sensor the news media. I just got tired of it, and with each day it got more and more rediculous.
