View Full Version : Far Cry and 6600GT AGP

Got a new bfgtech 6600gt oc agp.
Didn't try any games except doom3, farcry and warcraft3.

doom3 and warcraft3 work perfectly.
Huge performance boost from the 9800pro in doom3 at 1024 2xaa 8xaf (35 to 55).

And farcry is completely crapped out...
The water shaders are rendered wrong, the brightness on textures is too high and the nice 'shiney' specular layer on the textures is lost.

What's more is when I click on auto-detect in the game, it sets everything at low, wtf?

Using the 71.20 driver set, same problem with 66.93.

No idea at all what's wrong, this is driving me crazy!!

Two quick seemingly obvious questions:

* Have you got AT LEAST the 1.1 patch for Far Cry? If not, the game simply won't render shaders properly.
* Are you running the Demo and not the Full Game? If so, there's no way to get the game to use the card as it should. The best you can do in that case is to use 3d Analyze to trick the game into thinking it's running on a Radeon 9800 or GF FX 5900.

Im using MSI 6600 GT APG, FW 66.93, I have no problem at all with Farcry 1.3. I dunno why ppl say MSI is bad but I have no problem at all.

ah lol, it's farcry 1.0 =\
Will try 3d analyze before downloading 1.3.

Man, that's a great screenshot. I really never knew just how important shaders are to adding realistic effects until I saw the difference of the water from 1.0 (bad/no shadder) to the 1.3 version which we're all use to seeing now.

Now I'm wondering if Nvidia should be focusing on adding a great deal more pixel shaders on their next card (maybe up to 10 or 12) rather then adding the 8 more pixel pipelines that we're hearing in rumors.

Update to the 1.3 patch.

O_O It seems like all the details are set to minimum. Look how's blurry the boat textures

You've got that reversed. 1.3 will just about guarantee that all your problems will go away. It's a large download, yes, but get it from www.nzone.com - those servers are very fast, even if you just have a dial-up connection.

I remember a time when a screenshot like that was actually impressive...

Yep, remember Turok?
