View Full Version : Ti4600 recognised as Ti4800?
bought a second hand PNY Ti4600 while it seems to be working OK it is recognised as a Ti4800. The sticker says PNY Ti4600, whats going on? I'm running it on an A7N8X-D v2.0 and I've just run 3DMark 2001 and the score was just over 13000. Is that about right? Does it need a bios flash or has the previous owner done something to it?
any ideas more than welcome

tried 2 sets of drivers so far the 56.73 set and then 66.93 with the same results with both Ti4800??
bios = 4.28.20.21 if it's any help
If it shows as a ti4800... that means its a 8x/agp card, regular 4x/agp cards will display as a ti4600 card. Same went for ti4800se, thats just a ti4400 with 8x/agp and shows plain ti4400 if its a 4x/agp card.

I think PNY stopped making Ti4600 cards 2 years ago, and a year ago when I had a Ti4600 replaced under warrenty they sent a Ti4800 back. So the chances are you have a Ti4800 which is just a Ti4600 that supports AGP 8x.

I thought the SE was a 4200 with 8x AGP?
And yeah...having a 4800 (not SE) would be better than a 4600. :)

I worked NVIDIA during this naming fiasco. It's confusing because European distributors demanded different names than US for overseas (e.g. Ti4800), and then the same European distributors started selling Ti4800 in North America along with the normal USA Ti4600/4400/4200 names ... from the same OEMs!.
The following clocks are general, as recommended by NVIDIA, but sometimes changed by the OEMs
NV25 = All GeForce4 Ti AGP4×
300 MHz Core / 600‡ MHz DDR = Ti4600
275 MHz Core / 550 MHz DDR = Ti4400
250 MHz Core / 500 MHz DDR = Ti4200
NV28 = All GeForce4 Ti AGP8×
300 MHz Core / 600‡ MHz DDR = Ti4600 AGP8×
275 MHz Core / 550 MHz DDR = Ti4400 AGP8× = Ti4800SE
250 MHz Core / 500 MHz DDR = Ti4200 AGP8× = Ti4800
‡ cannot find my spec to confirm 600.

GeForce4 Ti 4800 = GeForce4 Ti 4600 at 8xAGP
GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE = GeForce4 Ti 4400 at 8xAGP

I agree, this is the most accurate post so far. Ti4200 with 128mB of memory tend to fall in 444 MHz DDR, whereas 64mB ti4200 fall in 500+ MHz DDR. (514 for MSI)
Parkie, a Ti4800 is 8x, and sports a strong core and fast memory, whichever way you look at it. The score you show for 3dmark depends also on your CPU, for a 2200 to 2800 class CPU it seems about right.

It's like this as far as I know.
Ti 4800 = Ti 4600 8x
Ti 4800 SE = Ti 4400 8x
Ti 4200-8x = Ti 4200 8x :eek:
Ti4600/Ti4800 -> 300/650
Ti4400/Ti4800SE -> 275/550
Ti4200 128MB 4x -> 250/444
Ti4200 64MB 4x / Ti4200 128MB 8x -> 250/513
The Ti4800 is nothing more than a Ti4600 with AGP 8x instead of 4x. That's all.

Why is it the 64MB card has faster memory? Is it like a perk to buy it? "Get less, but faster, memory?"

At the time, the 64 MB version was a lot more interesting since games like Doom3, FarCry and HalfLife2 were not out 2-3 years ago... And 64 MB was plenty. If it meant you could clock that 64MB at 600MHz (like me) then it was a definite plus. The rated speed (ns) for the 128MB version was not so forgiving.
