Well.. the ONE (I know more are coming) supplier of Go 6800 has switched to ATI. Even though the Clevo based notebooks (Prostar 9095, Sager 9860, Alienware 7700) have the ability (supposedly) via MXM to handle either processor, it is impossible now to get the Go 6800... warning to anyone ordering.... you'll get the ATA chipset. If you are Windows user, this probably doesn't matter... shoot, you may like ATI better... but if you are Linux user, the ship just sank.

Let's face it. ATI owns the notebook world.

Bye bye Go 6800, be glad if you got one before they all went Radeon.

Any tech sites/magazines comment on the issue? I'd be interested to find out the full story behind it? Is it a lack of availability from the mft? Why won't we see the Go 6800 anymore?

what were the issues?

availability I can understand, I am wondering if there was anything wrt power consumption/heat?

I woulda thought it would not be an issue at all... and was hoping to see some systems here with that soon... the highend XPS systems here @ dell are still using the mobility 9800pro...

We offer a go 6800 notebook at work

My friend came in 1 week ago to buy it, I ordered it, and its backordered. Might just be in short supply right now.

I would imagine so...

the specs on those gpu's were brilliant...

the ati mobility x800-ish products also look ace and probably consume less power but for high end gaming DTR's, I doubt battery life/weight is key and while heat is a factor... those things have more fans than I can count...

I would be VERY surprised if you see it (well you'll get a x800 based one like everyone else).

Yup your right, discontinued.

Something about the upgradable chip not being very upgradable as advertised.

You are mistaken, here are no shortage of Go 6800, actually here are shortage of 17" LCD displays, it seem only Sager changed the original laptop to X800 with 15.4" LCD instead of Go 6800 and 17" LCD, Alienware A51M 7700 and others are not affected It could take a few months for laptop makers to put Go 6800 in with 15.4 LCD and maybe lighter laptops. I am still waiting for Athlon 64 laptop with Go 6800 and 15.4" LCD.

Actually, YOU are mistaken.

Here's the truth (from Sager anyway)... seems that Nvidia is releasing a new Go 6800 with DDR3 memory. As soon as that gets into the channel, the Go 6800 will be back in supply (and probably competing better with the x800 mobile).

For right now, the Go 6800 is OUT... expect new Go 6800 with DDR3 in February time frame.

Those are the unmistaken facts.

Oh... and yes... there is a new Clevo with a 15" screen out... totally different look and size of course... but similar specs (well...not as many bells and whistles... it's not quite the full desktop replacement) on the inside.

Well Sager gone slient about Go 6800 removed and here are lots of people from Notebook Forum tried to contacted Sager demand them to explain the reason they put X800 instead of Go 6800 and people received the laptops with X800 ordered from Sager and discovered that the laptop use 15.4" display instead of 17" advertised on Sager website. Many people are not happy with Sager misleaded them. All customers who received the laptops with X800 send feedbacks on the forum that they are concerned about the laptop overheated as the X800 clocked at 400Mhz versus the customers who had Go 6800 experienced no overheat issue because the core clocked lower. Hopefully soon Sager will explain the reasons to unhappy customers.

There is some truth to the fact that the Go 6800 had some power issues.... esp on those heavy laden Clevo based laptops. The DDR3 should nudge it down a bit and make that more stable.

There is a new model laptop with the 15.4" screen... but the 15" should NOT have delivered on a 9860 or Prostar 9096 AFAIK. I mean that would leave a significant border on the sides wouldn't it?? I would be very unhappy if this is indeed the case.

latinmike...

What on earth does the LOWLY Go 6200 have to compare with the Go 6800?? I think YOU need to read your own article.

AND.. there's nothing saying that the Go 6200 (currently available in Sony's S series laptops) will be around for long either.

There's no brand loyalty amongst laptop vendors.

I hear the Go 6200 is a pretty poor performer. Maybe even better off with the FX5650.

Things we'll be seeing shortly:

The new Intel "centrino" (Sonoma) chipset which will allow use of Pentinu-M's and PCI-Express (read that MXM boards from Nvidia and ATI).

An updated Go 6800 (possibly even a Go 6600 even!) with DDR3.

Sonoma launch is currently set for Jan 19th.

You need to take a CHILL PILL dude!!!!!! Maybe you need to stop a realize that most likely, the reason Latinmike posted the link about the 6200 mobile chip was because of the discussion about ATI holding roughly 60-70% of the laptop market. With the 6200 now available, more laptop companies will use it and less of ATI.

I guess you didn't read what I said?? I quote:

Did you even read the CONTEXT of where he TWICE replied with that little linky?? It had nothing to do with the marketshare matter... even so the Go 6200 really won't have much effect, it doesn't bring much to the table. I don't mind people posting a link if it is germane to the thread... I felt it was old unrelated news. To post it twice was just rude.

I'm sorry, the thread is about the Go 6800 and the market share potential of that solution. The Go 6200 doesn't play in the same playground. Feel free to post another thread about why the Go 6200 will spark an Nvidia marketshare revolution. :)

Nobody said anything about an nvidia share revolution, but you need to quit with the ....... THIS IS FOR 6800 ONLY thread and nothing else can be talked about!!! Why? Cuz you say so? NOT!!!! The area of discusssion is about mobile gpu's and in that effect, the mobile 6200 has every reason to fit in this thread. Someone has something to say that differs from you view point...thats what a discussion is about. Duh!!!!!! You keep trying to dramaticize what someone says to make it look like you are the shiz. Does your ego need boosting? or do you feel no one listens to you unless you talk down to ppl whether directly or direct implication.
I read the entire thread, thank you, did you?
It was not LatinMike that appeared rude, it was you.
