xp updates

Trying to install updates on friend's computer. Windows xp service pack 1 or 2.
service pack 1 error is errror 643
service pack 2 error is 87ff36bo.
tried searching in microsoft and google. can't find any answers. i think they need a format. :confused:

It's not a pirate copy of XP is it. Some of the early copies didnt like to be updated.

No, well I don't know. it's on a hateway, i mean gateway computer. it has the xp home sticker on the back with the code.
