Stuttering when running timedemos in HL2

If this is a known problem then just let me know and I'll delete this thread. Sazar and others have been assisting with me starting over here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=42173#post519684) though and I have no solution yet. I've not messed with HL2 much so I'm hoping this some easy oversight on my part.

My problem is basiclly this. While recording my own timedemo, HL2 runs just fine. When I go to play the timedemo though, there is very bad visual stuttering/chop and my fps results are very low.

The system I'm benching with is as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Socket 939 (Newcastle)
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
(2) eVGA 660GT PCI-E cards
Official NVIDIA 66.93 Forceware drivers
Mushkin 1GB(512MBx2) PC-3500 Level One Dual Pack
Antec True Power 480W


Also, I have my network connection disabled and so am running Steam in offline mode. Thanks for any assistance.

I would definetely try new drivers, those drivers are very old and don't properly support SLI, I would try the latest beta's from www.nzone.com

I was hoping to stick with the 66.93s as using "official" (non-beta) drivers is the preferred approach for a public review.

Yea I know... problem is with tech this new its hard to find drivers that really support it the way it should, I would just try the newer drivers, just to see if they fix the problem, if they don't you can just go back to the older ones again.

I've been having alot of problems lately finding the right drivers... some work with certain things, others work with other things, the best all around driver I have seen yet is the latest official betas

Yeah, so for the 66.76s didn't help. It's really weird, HL2 "plays" just fine but when I got to play back a timedemo it's chop city.

I'm trying the 71.24s now...

Actually Clay, when I try anadtech's c_17 demo, the huge walking thing stutters for me when i playback the demo. With or without AA/AF. Dunno what the problem is. Everything else is fine but that combine stryder just kees freezing and then fast forwarding in motion. weird it is.

hmmm... In the video card options are you forcing multigpu mode? Mine defaults to single GPU mode, and some apps don't work right, I always force multi GPU mode (advanced options at the bottom)

Thanks Muya, that makes my experience seem more "normal". :) Yeah Jakup I played around with that setting a few days ago and noticed no differences. I think the 71.24s are yielding a bit better results (cept for pee water). :)

Np, Wierd that is, that stryder keeps stuttering. Hmm i just remebered in the Prision demow hen all erm creatures follow u around and assault the combine soldiers etc, they keep stuttering too, ie they keep freezing and fast forwarding etc.
