Use mode 7 in Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for PC and BAM! Quality has never been better before. Nor has a low resolution. :)

so this doesn't make all those boxes/lines appear on the 2d screens?

With 8xS there is BUT I am using an unofficial patch that even makes cards that do SS have boxes. Try it out with no patches.
