Since I switched to Fedora, and liked Firefox in the linux distribution, I also decided to use it in WinXP.

It IS safer! I was tired of managing trusted sites and putting everything else in high security (as I was doing in IE).

If Win32 users won't switch to Linux, lets at least make sure every Win32 user uses Firefox instead of IE.

I know. :) The funny thing is, I've been making publicity for Firefox where I work (Staples), but I was sticking to Linux for browsing, and Win32 for games. Decided to scrap IE entirely.

I'm obviously a big fan of Firefox. However, it will be interesting to see how secure it is over time. People like to take their shots at the big dog (IE) which benefits the small players like Firefox. If Firefox reaches 50% or more of the browser share then we'll have a better idea of how secure it actually is. But yes, you cannot go wrong with Firefox (aside from some banking sites for example that demand IE).

We installed FireFox on all our systems at work, I have also been using it for about a week. It is awesome

No activeX is good. That alone makes Firefox a better choice. I'll check about those banking sites...

Ive been using it for a few days as well. Its great, but there are still a lot of multimedia compatibility issues that I have noticed.

Sites running real slow because of certain content. Garbled\mis-aligned text on older pages. Quicktime videos not playing (it wont install the plugin which is needed to play the videos).

Its a great browser, but Im glad I still have IE as a backup in case something isnt compatible with Firefox.

Yup, Firefox is a standalone app, you can run both browsers at the same time.

-Do you know all your WinXP processes by heart from login to logout?
-Can you notice right away when a non-disired process is running?
-Have you checked and made sure your registry is clean with Hijackthis?
-Do you know all files in windows folder and system32 folder?
-Have you at least installed windows in another folder name than the default?
-do you only browse with a limited user account?

If you answered no to any of these questions, you're up for a big surprise!

Whether it's good/useful/helpful news or not...it's just not a good idea to make redundant posts or start redundant threads. If that precedent is set (and accepted) then it opens a can of worms and we'd eventually have people leave the forums in droves because of all the "noise". Make sense?

What he said.

I respect that.
Ok, so lets keep the one in Windows Forum (with the most views), and close the one in General Software.

Anyone else use Hijackthis to check their comp?

It's not a big deal and I know you have good intentions, thanks for understanding. I'll just merge the one in General Software into this one.

EDIT: I also pruned some of the posts just to clean this merged thread a bit more.

I just remembered, I used to access my bank accounts on old Mozilla, I suppose if Mozilla supported my bank's site, Firefox should too.
Wooo, (to self) nice way to suck up Daneel! ;) It's written admin just over a little red fox! :)

Yes.

I run a few select programmes. Hijackthis, Adaware Pro, Adwatch, Spybot S&D, and SmartProtector.

As I said, I have no intention of installing something when I have been using I.E for so long with absolutely no problems what so ever. :)

Not every person using IE is a moron who knows nothing about computers you know? ;)

I use Firefox myself but when I was using IE I still had no problems.

Yeah, to each his own fellas. One can use IE without much trouble at all if they know what they're doing.

True, but I'm tired of removing spyware from clients comps. And when I got some last night I went on a rampage against IE.

Browse safely :)

I'm having zero problems with IE on XP Pro SP2.

Someone show me a site where I'll have problems (security or otherwise) with the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Don't get me wrong, I like Firefox too. But you gotta admit Microsoft has come a long way security-wise.
