Hello all. I have been a reader here for years. Never felt the need to post at all but I would like to thank all the techheads here that have helped me tweak my systems over the years.

Now to my question:

I have some family in Italy I'm in the U.S.A

My cousin in Italy asked me if I could make her a dvd with some movies of my family and children and such. She knows I have a digital camcorder and a DVD burner. She keeps on bugging me and I promissed I would.

My main concern is the NSTC/PAL stuff. Does anyone know a good place to get some info on stuff like this?

Like if I burn a home movie DVD that plays in my DVD player here in the states will it play in her DVD player over in italy?

Also, I have questions on the media type (+r/-r)

I've done a few google searches but I cant find any direct answers to the NTSC/PAL question I have.

I have to admit I'm a total noob when it comes to video editing of any kind on a PC.

Thanks for any and all help.

Playback doesn't really matter: +/- will work...the difference is mainly in the burning of the disc.

If you burn it in NTSC and their DVD player is older, it may not work. If they have a very new DVD player, it may work fine. My DVD player (it's about 3 years old, but it is amazing...I can't remember the model right now) can't play about 99% of PAL DVDs, but one of my roommates has a very new one that is region free and he can not only play PAL DVDs, but also Region 2 (Japan/South Pacific) and every other format.

I believe in Nero you can tell it to burn in PAL or else in the program you use to edit the video, I recommend Ulead MovieFactory--there is a free trial avaiable, usually lets you choose the format of burning.

No problem and yeah, it's fanastic...a bit low-level though. they don't allow for much in the area of menu creation, but for beginners and people that want to put together a disc fast with a simple, working menu: it's great.
