Has there been any word on these? I thought I remembered hearing that the NV47 (that never existed now, apparently) was going to have 512MB, but I don't recall.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about nVIDIA's roadmaps that would lead them to believe we would have 512MB cards in the near future?

There's no reason why the NV40 couldn't have 512 MB. It's the partners' decision to put 512 or not.

I found this 512mb card on newegg.com, but I'm not sure it is meant for gaming...I'm not sure what it is for really, but 850 bucks?

Cost is the main reason! Imagine 256MB high ends cost $499! 256MB if 1.6ns extra DDR3 memory modules would be phenomenal.

Also, Samsung has only just started shipping 512mbit modules which keeps the number of modules down to 8. Like present high end 256MB cards are made with 8 256Mbit mmemory modules. With 256Mbit modules you would have needed 16 modules to make 512MB...more power consuming? more traces and more complications.

I suspect 512mb will start appearing late q1 or early q2 this year

Costs!!! a 256MB card costs an arma nd a leg imagine a 6800 ultra with 256MB extra worth of 1.6ns GDDR3 memory modules. These modules are expensive compared to the 4-5 ns DDR or DDR2 memory found on desktops!!!

O god no, that card is just plain bad from every angle. Professionnal, gamer or anything.

No it's quite surprising it keeps up with the big boys ....I linked a NV vs 3Dlabs vs Ati workstation battle royal a few days back.

Doesnt the 800xl use 2ns 256megs of ram and only costs 250?
I dont think memory is that expensive, its just the vendor charging 4-500 bucks for the whole top of the line package.

2 ns maybe...1.6ns??? and the new 512mbit modules too? They are in oversupply u know ;) They are expensive and very very limited in supply. Why do u think the shortages in high end cards from both IHVs. Part of that is due to shortages of qualified 1.6ns memory modules ....

I saw it show massive openGL errors.

That card is insane...the 3840 x 2400@50Hz resolution is erection inducing...if you're into that, like the guy that spooged on his 6800U

God damn, you could actually stand 50hz? 60hz gives me a headache. I dont think i would even be able to look at 50hz.

That is a really high res, but its not like you could really game at that resolution. The card isnt meant for gaming, itd probably be real slow if it even ran at all.

Oh, I thought that everyone knew this already. Thats what all of those cards are for. If its expensive and you havent heard of it, its probably for professional graphics, not gaming.

My LCD is at 75 and my CRT is at 60...I can't even tell a difference. :( Sorry.

Most PAL TVs work at 50Hz (ie when playing on consoles - admittedly most people don't sit that close to TVs when gaming). Some PC games do lower the refresh rate to 60Hz by default.

Can't stand 60Hz CRT when on the desktop however. I can definitely perceive a difference between 75Hz/100Hz. LCDs are a different matter however.

The Wildcat Realizm 800 (http://www.3dlabs.com/products/product.asp?prod=293&page=6) doesn't sound like a bad card.

# Dual VPU

# 640MB GDDR3 total memory.

* 512MB GDDR3 unified memory with 512-bit-wide interface bus
* 128 MB GDDR3 DirectBurst memory with 128-bit-wide interface bus :eek:

you probably won't be able to on an LCD as all the pixels are lit at once! :D unlike CRTs

That is in-frickin-sane...dual VPUs and all that RAM?! Not to mention a 512-bit bus...that card must kick all sorts of ass.

It isn't bad for what it's supposed to....but it's from a smaller budgeted IHV so probably cannot keep up with the big boys in exposure or maybe even support.

Here are some becnhes;

Looks like:
FireGL X3-256 ≈ Radeon X800Pro
Quadro FX 4000 ≈ GF 6800Gt

The 3Dlabs card doesn't do too badly against the big boys.

Doesn’t mean too much to me without some Quake3 benchies. :p
