Hi guys. I was just wondering if after the latest Steam update, anyone else was getting this strange shader issue in VST. Or is it perhaps just my problem, all though I doubt it since I tried it with multiple driver releases with not positive effect. Oh and I have a 6800Ultra.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hmm... I just tried it out (BFG 6800 ultra OC) and everything was fine for me.

Ughh, I see. Must be just me than. Very strange too. Since I tried with multiple drivers...
Any way, going to reinstall it now, see how it works out. And thanks for the response!

If the problem you're referring to is the vertical and horizontal line patterns in the brown checker window... I just fired up CS and ran the test. Looks pretty much the same as what I see with 71.20 driver. I don't remember seeing them before, so perhaps something has changed.

Hmm, most interesting. So it is not just me (good to hear). Oh and for the unconvinced ones. Here is a screen of how it should look. Or rather, how it looked before the change:

[edit]

Ok, this is even stranger, but apparently everything is back to normal now. It ended just as sudden as it begun. Anyway, thanks to everyone who responded. The input is greatly appreciated.

Wait are you saying it is supposed to look like that last shot? Mine has always had the boxes like in your first shots ever since I have had the game before valve even launched HL2.

it should look like water... not boxes :)

Wait are you saying it is supposed to look like that last shot?Yes that is exactly what I am saying. Here are a few shots I just took. Everything is back to normal, as I previously mentioned:

The second couple of shots are the ones that don't look normal, not the first.
The rectangle after the one that looks like water flowing over a sheet of glass should look like different colored glass squares, like this......

Well than apparently firingsquad is having this exact problem with multiple cards NVIDIA as well as ATI alike! Oh boy, there sure are a lot of "bugs" going around. ;)

That's interesting, after searching a bit it seems like there are different versions of the results.
I've run it on both ATI and nVidia cards and have always had the colored squares in the VST.

That is very strange. On both of my computers we have the colored glass squares. I never knew others saw it as a wall of water until now.

I've run it on both ATI and nVidia cards and have always had the colored squares in the VST.I can say the exact same thing but vice versa. Both my 9800pro and 6800Ultra had water not cubes. This issue is getting more and more interesting. One little question however, which might seem irrelevant but still, do you have the modding tools installed or not?

I don't have the modding tools installed.
