I ran an fps graph test with 3dmark05 (Firefly forest, Trilinear filtering, AA off, 1024 x 768) and the results were... unexpected. The average frame rate was 5,4 fps and at some point it had actually 'reached' 1.06 fps ! :eek: And I thought I had a good graphics card.. Is this really normal? :confused:

firefly forest is probably the most demanding demo in 3dmark05..... but I dunno if thats normal for 6600gt, did you compare your score with other scores with 6600gt?

Well I didn't run the actual 3DMark-test, only the fps-graph test.

I ran the same test with Return to Proxycon and the average frame rate was 10.5. It even went down to less than one fps many times during the shooting. (throwpc) I still think this isn't right... Comments..?

Well,I have a 6600GT with a 3 Ghz P4 and 512 RAM,so our results should be comparable.I get:

gt1=12.9
gt2=9,5
gt3=16,4

Run the benchmark and see if you are near these figures.I'm using the VXG 67.02s.If you are using the 71.20 driver,I should tell you that this particular driver set improves performance in 3dmark05,but that is not real-life performance(frame rates were worse in games).

You were using the same settings (trilinear filtering, aa off, 1024 x 768)?

Hmm.. This is strange. I get much better fps-readings when I run just the graph test for a single demo (results around ~10fps except for demo 2) than when I run the benchmark with all of the 3 demos (results around ~4fps)...

Yes,I was using the same settings(which are the default anyway)

A 6800GT will get around 12FPS in firefly forest, it's an absurdly demanding test.

btw acdx, if you are looking to increase your score, some more ram will help you greatly, 512 isnt too much even for a 6600gt, that will be a quick and not so expensive way..

I don't know about those scores. In Battle of Proxycon I keep it at a steady 40fps, I think, all the time. I even commented on how smooth, and well this card rips through that test. what is your score? I have a crappy p4 2.66ghz, so I MAX in the low 9000's.

You must be using 3dmark03 or something heh

You must indeed be using a different version of the software; there isn't such demo called "Battle of Proxycon", only "Return to proxycon". But still, 40fps!!!! :eek:

I bet he's talking about 3dMark 03.For the record,my average fps for "Battle of Proxycon" in 3dmark 03 was 60.1 fps.

I was talking about 3dmark03. also, I think I got 40fps since I did that demmo a month ago when I got my card and i forgot. all I remember is my score (see sig), and that it went as smooth as silk. in 3dmark 05 I remember that I had around 20fps at proxycon, however the forest demo was lower. again, I don't remember for sure, but my score was relatively high.

Yeah well, not even a 6800ultra is fast enough to run 3dmark 05 perfectly. Futuremark indeed, it really needs an 6800 ultra SLI set up.

So 3dmark 03 is a better test for these cards? What about all the DX9 candy?

I dunno about that, 3dmark 05 is more demanding and newer, but you won't really reach a minimum FPS of 25 often.
