Here's my HW config:

Pentiium III 866
512 Mb RAM
VIA Motherboard
Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400

I've compiled the kernel and the glx driver,
the kernel module auto loading works well.

Here's my problem
KDE 3 freezes on my Slacware 8.1 with kernel 2.4.18
I don't understand why...
what can I do to be able to use nvdriver?
I really don't like to play quake2 with nv ;P

thank you

This hit my eye as I have the same card and a similiar problem.
My HW config:

AMD K6-2 450
224 MB RAM
an ASUS motherboard (I think..)
Nvidia GeForce2 MX 400

I have a freshy RedHat 8 with latest updates installed
(kernel 2.4.18-18.8.0 and its sources) and I installed nvidia drivers GLX from rpm and kernel from source rpm with rpmbuild.

Now, my Gnome desktop (the default) freezes every now and then, mostly with browsers (I tested mozilla and galeon) but also with evolution. An easy way of getting this behavior is rapid selecting and deselecting (partially & whole) the contents of a textbox with a mouse. In Evolution it also cluttered my screen, in the browsers the system simply hang up (picture visible, mouse sometimes moving, system completely stopped responding any input).
This also happens with normal usage, so no, I can't keep things stable by not selecting textbox contents with a mouse ;-). Also it seems that the filesystem browser doesn't hang with same thing..
Once it hanged mozilla while I was scrolling the page.

I tried to switch back to "nv"-driver but didn't work at all. I'll try to go back to 2960 as I had the problem with 3123. And, I didn't have this problem before installing nvidia drivers.

Okay, more input on this!

My problem remains even with the 2960-driver. Still, with the nv-driver that came with redhat - everything works, I can't bring the system down.
I had the system working earlier with RedHat 7.2 and an earlier nvidia-driver (I don't remember the version number) so it's not about hardware..

Should I continue to try older and older drivers or is this possibly getting fixed?
