If anyone is interested I will post my complete service list. It's based on various things I've learned since XP was released and works quite well.

Please do.It would be nice if you could also post what kind of programs you use(antivirus, firewall and such).

Can anyone recommend the best settings for a gaming system?I only play single-player games,so what servives need to start in order for everything to work well?Is it possible to create a new user account in Windows and set it to run only these services(kinda like a "Games only" config)? If anyone has any links on the subject,it would also come in handy.

Thanks for the link!
I based my list on his guide initially but then found a lot of windows functionality was lost so I did some research of my own and adjusted to what I think is the perfect setup for gamers/everyday users like us.

I will post my list later tonight.

If my PC is idle, I have 19 processes running.

Ahh, a fellow with a tidy P.C.;)

I always have 18 running while idling on the desktop. It used to be 16, but I am now sharing an internet connection with my other P.C., so a couple more are needed.

<edit> Just saw Macatac's, and am wondering where his other svhosts are.
I've got six, and this is one clean P.C.

It's probably because i have shut down any unnecessary services with Start/run/services.msc

Got it. I set the print spooler and error reporting to manual, I keep system restore disabled and that's about it for services.

I'd like to keep auto update off, but it's just tries to turn on whenever I hop into the system settings in the control panel.

That's fine, it's not like a gig of ram can't handle a couple extra processes.

I have Automatic Updates turned off in services.msc and in System Properties, that stops it from trying to turn on
