What's wrong with that?

I've got 42 processes and 4 programs running at the moment. If you've got the RAM to handle it and you aren't trying to game while they are all grabbing for resources, there isn't really a problem.

47 on the work laptop and...

48 at home :)

As you can see in my signiture I don't exactly have a beast of a machine. Plays HL2, NFSU2 and the like well enough for me though :)

The question should be, how many processes are running that you can't identify the use?
Sytaylor, your machine is plenty (that gig is good), and I probably feel as you do when looking at those 6800s! :)
Zeero, how can you be in dual channel with 3 sticks of ram?

26 processes running right now
5 icons in systray (YIM, ICQ, Cacheman memory display, NVmixer, Nvidia settings)
1 program open (firefox)
275Mbs memory used

BTW, I just closed all windows and opened a new firefox window and came here. Its already using a whopping 31.6Mbs. Yahoo Messenger (minimized to systray) is using 19.3Mbs. Explorer is only using 16.7Mbs!

Some programs are such memory hogs :p

Wow I feel like a damn perfectionist now :D
I have 24 programs and processes total running in taskmanager on my AMD machine with XP SP2. I have AV antivirus and HP Image Director running in my systray and that's it.

I think there is 26 running on my P4 machine with XP SP1. On that one I have AV antivirus, Intel Active Monitor and the Nvidia settings thing in the systray.

i only have 24 running. i dont allow any programs to run in the tray. i hate that stuff. im always fixing peoples computers who have like 20 programs in the tray and they cant figure out why the computer is so slow.

I'm the kinda guy that tends to leave a firefox instance open, with 3 or 4 tabs of stuff I wanna read or look at. As well as maybe having a couple of notepads and idling on IRC/various chat progs.

If anyone is interested I will post my complete service list. It's based on various things I've learned since XP was released and works quite well.
