NV47/48 will never see the light of day. NV50 was scrapped for a reason, they restarted from scratch. Keep in mind EVERY mid year graphics card release from Nvidia and ATI has been basically, a new tech core, not to mention everyone from Nvidia has ended with a 0.
1) The INQs article said the NV48/NV50 were scrapped [if you choose to believe them]
2) The NV47 is not the NV48.
3) Nvidia does have a yet unnamed core out there, it'll be powering the PS3.
The INQs article said the NV48/NV50 were scrapped i think its funny you should mention that artical becouse i was just thinking .....if nvidia was to drop the nv47/48/50 what would they replace it with .... my guess would be with the nv47/48/50 hehehe its only a name. we also dont know if this was leaked to confuse ati ....

Theres like 2 or 3 of you in here that are complete Nvidia fanbois and saying stupid things that make no sence. First of all the R520/R500(Xbox) is a completely respun core using totally different voltages, clock speeds, and manufacturering process. They are not using the technology of previous cores as bodly as the R300->R400. If you think different, guess what, you're wrong! What you are saying makes about as much sence as me saying 'Well the NV50 is going to be an NV20 but just faster with new stuff!'. Its like, what the hell did he just say?
Second, the SM3.0 from ATI will support full 32bit buffer, which completely surpasses the curren NV40+ line out under their sm3.0 which is limited. (the main cause why SM3.0 supported games dont run faster and in some cases worse then ones that support 2.0 or 2.0b) The card is going to have 24 pixel pipes, and 8 vertex pipes. Simple as that. These are basically facts now as the core is already out for testing. Whats Nvidia have? Nothing. Absolutly no word has been said beyond pure speculation. Believe me, i have my SLI board right here waiting for 2 next gen cards, im as hungry to see what both have to offer as the next guy or gal, but right now Nvidia simply has no cards or even hinted info showing.
One other thing, slightly off topic, is that people think 512mb cards are going to be like double the speed of current GDDR3, for example on the PE and U. This is false. The 512 GDDR memory for the cards will be in 128bit for this years release. Much like the 9800PRO of old being in 256mb 128bit until the XT was released. So while its more ram, it will handle less 'info per cycle' to dumb it down. You can expect the GDDR3 (or 4) 256mb 256bit versions to put up a nice fight in terms of 3d benchmarks. Though i still think the 512s will prove better in the long run simply because its double the space to store information and less of a strain on the card. It wont be some massive boost or be anywhere near 100% better. Lets hope Nvidia releases something soon, because personally, im putting my money down on the first thing to show its face, and as it stands, i dont even know what Nvidia will be throwing. The worst thing they can do is upgrade the Nv40 core with its current problems with needing bios upgrades, drivers, and stuttering in games. NV47/48 will never see the light of day. I agree with some of the things you are saying, but make no mistake, NVIDIA is not going to sit by and watch ATI dominate the market. Remember how quickly the x800 line was announced after everyone was getting ready to buy a 6800? It seemed out of the blue and completely random. You can be sure that NVIDIA has been working on their next GPU for years just like ATI has. On your SM 3.0 comment, I totally agree. NVIDIA's S.M. 3.0 implementation seems a little pre-mature without proper flow control. S.M. 3.0 has great potential, I think NVIDIA just jumped the gun on this one before a well-programed S.M. 3.0 could be delivered.

Funny to watch you guys read out hard facts outta animal cadavers.
You guys crack me up.
NV 40's SM 3.0 is premature?
Maybe, maybe not. How can you say somethign when you have zero arguments top back that up?

Let's use some logic here kiddies. Have we ever seen a built from the ground up SM3 game? Nope. So does this mean we have no real way of knowing how the NV40 will handle these types of games? Yup. Are humans by nature stupid-ass carpet munchers? You bet.
Quiz on Friday. Feel free to die before then.
*note not really aiming that post at anyone. But I just watched the second RE movie and I'm feeling extremely aggresive.

Agressive because Jill is so hot it makes your balls hurt or aggressive because that movie blew?

isnt that called a die shrink ???
if you followed gpu's as close as you say you do you would know that some components in the nv4x are the same as the nv2x..... i cant find the link right now about reuse of internal components but when i do ill post it here
You dont understand, what ATI did with the R520 and R500 cores cannot possibly be any closer to a new core. It is completely different in all the most important ways. I named some.
thats called keeps your corperate secrets close to your vest and waiting for the other guy to show his hand... its also called ...SMART
Nvidia is a business company, its not smart at all because people invest in them and their technology. What damage would it do to anounce that you have something in the works.
why would you buy an sli board now when you are waiting for these so called cards that arent even announced and probably will not be out in retail for what 6 to 8 months ....
Well, its amazing, i know, but the SLI boards run a single X800 awesome. I also wanted to go AMD PCX, and that was the fastest way. Its a good board. If Nvidia releases a strong card, i'll have the ability to go to SLI, if they dont, i'll just buy the strongest single ATI card.
and you know this from how ?? oh wait this is more rumor monegering .....
I am quite sure the Nv50 will be seen, but what ever they had been working on, which had that title, was killed. As far as the Nv47, forget it. I think Nvidia has done something very smart. I initially think they were going to release an updated version of the NV40, but saw how radical ATI had went and realized they needed to do the same. Hence the announced death of the Nv50 (which was backed by Nvidia not the Inq). I believe they will release a very nice, new core seperate from the NV40.
You get so defensive you dont even bother to comment like a normal person, all you did was insult and try to inflate your e-panis.

I figured you'd be the only one to get it.
Yup, it was teh hotness. She makes me happy in the pants. I thought the movie [short of the ending] was pretty darned good. I mean it's Resident Evil, you came to the wrong movie if you wanted a deep and moving socio-political commentary. They're zombies. Shoot them in the fraking head. It's Resident Evil. It also helped that I had been playing RE3: Nemesis yesterday and watched the movie right after beating it. That movie was probabley the most faithful movie adaption of a game I've ever seen. When Nemesis burst through the wall I was like "hold down R1 and blast that mutha Alice".
Now the Doom movie...Gods they couldn't even get those basics right.

Hahahahahaha...I know what you mean. It was a great game->movie conversion, I admit, but man...they could've done a LITTLE more to make it believable (like had Jill in it more with less on. :))

Let's...let's just not talk about that.
And anyway, R520...yeah!

Ya, WTF was up with that. The one fan-service panty shot was of some random women who threw herself off a building. If you're going to serve your fans don't give them table scraps, give them the full course meal.

Psh, NV----something all the way.
Anyway R500 is a completely new and different core. Ati have been developing this baby since 2002, probably before. It was the original R400 nicknamed Loki which was rumored to have been shelved in favor of the easier to produce R420 (a R300 derivative)
The first time I heard about the R400 (now R500) back in 2002 it was about its "unified architecture", a rumor which hasn't been denied nor confirmed yet.
The evolution of ATi families of chips is:
R3x0 (Radeon 95/6/7/800) -> R4x0 (Radeon X7/800) -> R520 (TBA for the PC this year)
R400 (project, possibly prototype) -> R500 (Xbox2 GPU) -> R600 (Next PC part in 2006)

No kidding...I actually want to buy this movie just because of her...and I would watch any/all bonus features just to see Jill more. I googled her, but every pic I found sucked...she has never been as hot as she was in that tiny, tiny skirt she's in during RE:A
Psh, NV----something all the way.
Yeah, I hear that...I was just trying to get back on topic.
ATi is the Great White Satan! Praise nVIDIALLAH!!!
What I just heard from a guy who knows what he says is, that the R520 may be fast but it probably won't have any new features which why didn't know yet because the NV40 completes nearly all specification of DirectX 9.
And NVIDIA already has experience with SM3 - ATI has not. So whatever will stand against the R520, it will have a very good SM3 performance.
Anyway, it's defenitely going to be interested.
Have you guys read the latest Steam News? ATI will release HDR for HLČ. I guess it's going to be part of the presentation of the R520. Probably a deal between ATI und VALVe...Again.
