I hated it, and thought it screwed the game badly.

argh

Anyone else feel similarly?

What did you expect? It's a cliffhanger. All will be revealed in Halo 3.

How did it suck? There was alot of story leading to it. Only way it could have really ended is them killing all the elders then each other. To each his own I guess because I am glad it didnt end that way and cant wait to see where it goes. ;)

Yep.

Nope. I thought it ended exactly where it needed to, provided that we will see a closing game sometime in the future.

Yeah, there was another thread made on this, last year (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=40450) ;)

Yes, it seems FPS games nowadays are too "good" to have proper endings, all we get is "OMG something big is going to...credits?". There have been a lot of rumors flying around about downloadable content, Halo 2.5 being an Xbox 2 launch title, Halo 3 coming out later this year, etc., but I have no idea how much of it is even remotely true.

Damit .. will it ever be out on PC?!?!

well *sigh* beats Unreal's ending I guess

What blows is that if Bungie decides that "This whole Halo thing is getting boring" we never get a conclusion to the story...and imo that is bad storytelling.

Anyone remember Freespace2? Not quite the cliffhanger ending, but it still sucks because Volition kind of just abandoned the series after that.

Oh, and NO, H2 is NEVER going to go anywhere but Xbox. MS committed the whole multi-platform thing to Halo....and that's it. They *may* if they are feeling ultra benevolent and generous, port it right around when Halo3 ships (if it gets developed).

Looks like no Halo 2 for me then. I refuse to get an xbox for a few games ... PC is far superior if you ask me. Plus they are fools... they would make even more money by releasing it for PC. I dont think anyone is dumb enough to buy an xbox for 1 game.

People will buy XBOX for Halo 2. Not just for Halo 2 necesarilly, but MS is making more money by not releasing it for PC. I bought the XBOX just recently for Project Gotham 2 and Forza Motorsport. There's more games to the XBOX than just Halo 2 and all of the games that "are already on PC". That's why I got mine.

Anyway, yes, the ending sucked. So what? The game was excellent IMO. What matters to me is the fun I had when I was playing the game, and I did enjoy it a lot. It's not "Half-Life 2-esque" perfect, but I still thought it was excellent and worth the time. Crap ending, but great gameplay throughout it, and that's what really matters to me.

anyone care to spoil the ending or even the entire story for me since the game probably will never be ported to the pc?

Lets just say you get to play as the baddest alian and the baddest human who in the end instead of fighting each other unite to kick ass....or will unite to kick ass in the next installment. Thats if I remember right so that could be totally wrong, its been awhile. :p

People did buy an Xbox just for Halo 2. The console was in terribly short supply during the holiday season and after. If you want to play, rent a system and the game. There are few good reasons IMO to not at least try Halo 2.

I thought Halo 2 ended right where it needed to. Left me in suspense for Halo 3, and not to mention the novels usually feel in the gaps between games (where's my next Halo novel! arghh!).

Yes, it ended right where it needed to so that an expansion pack (or an Xbox2 and a new game) can extract money from your wallet.

Yup, it sure did end right where it NEEDED to, not where it was suppose to. It's an incomplete game.

I agree completely, that it is a great game that is worth trying. Via somehow finagling/borrowing a system, renting, etc.

The *game* is *_TECHNICALLY_* very good...but the ending ruined the whole entire experience for me. In the few seconds of the ship appearing above Earth and the radio contact with MC "Mind telling me WHAT YOU ARE DOING ABOARD THAT SHIP?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??@#$!*&#$&*(@$*(#&??????" "Finishing this fight sir"

and then.....credits......great

Suddenly, this small amount of time....completely and in its entirely nullified everything good I liked about the game. Hi-jacking ghosts, pummelling tanks, cloaking as the arbiter, stabbing enemies with a cool kung-fu type of sudden movement, the backstory about the prophets, detonating the huge bomb on the cruiser, fighting alongside hunters, gravemind, everything....just suddenly had a feeling of "actually...it wasn't all that great of a game"

It all amounted to a cliffhanger ending, and I had might as well have been playing Actionquake2, or Tribes Vengeance. Good storytelling is to have the climax slope downwards...not just STOP at the pinnacle of the story. There is a conclusion and not quite an epilogue but an aftermath. Otherwise the whole story is for naught.

Halo2, about halfway through the game...is the greatest game I have ever played EVER. 3/4 of the way through it still was. Just after killing Donkey-Kong-with-a-Hammer it still was. However, right when MC said "Finishing this fight" and then credits....all of that suddenly went away and Halo2 sunk to the depths of mediocrity. The whole experience just became yet another FPS game, yet more dialogue/cutscenes/shooting and it had nothing going for it anymore. Yes, the moment I saw that the credits were rolling, whatever semblance of greatness and originality in this game were all gone and it was thus ruined.

By the avault scale, (out of a possible 10) graphics 10.5, sound 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000, gameplay 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999999999999999999999999999, and then story ...... -19999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9999999999

Then it was done.

Both Unreal endings sucked. Between the two though, Unreal 2's did reach a new level of suckage compared to the first. The first one was way up there though.

Freaking...what happened to the escape pod? Aida's DEAD now?? wtf
You don't KILL OFF the babe unless it's a Jason movie.

The whole Tosc thing was retarded too, what about the Drak/x(sp?? metallic beings...) why were they there?? Who were they? What about the living planet thing? "Oh we got the artifact now, screw that thing" and we never see it again.

Talk about a waste of great material, man they could have ran for 100 miles with the story elements but they ended it in this crappy loser-dom "oh, artifacts=tosc=the good guys are dead=end of game"

gah

I should write for curmudgeon gamer. I'm too jaded these days.

HOWEVER, the singularity cannon kicked MAJOR ass...and ranks up there in the 10 best weapons of all videogame history. Blaster Master's super-gun, Metroid's hyper gun, the redeemer, the BFG, HL2's super-gravity gun, and the singularity cannon are all in the same league...and the singularity cannon gave them ALL a run for their money.

Playing through that game again and using the cheats to get it at the beginning made me wonder why in the hell it *HAD* to be at the end of the game.

Ever since their first couple games Legend Entertainment have been acting like a bunch of losers.
