What should one get, a 6600 gt or an ordinary 6800 with 256 ddr like MSI NX6800-TD256E? Is the MSI worth the extra money?
Also which 6600 gt do you recommend? Should one go for cards like Gainward GS GLH and XFX Extreme Gamers Ed. or stick with an ordinary 6600 gt? Or maybe a card like Gainward 6600 256 GS?
Im want to play games at 1280x1024.

If you look online, you can find some 6600 GTs for under $200. A friend of mine bought a PNY 6800 nu from Best Buy for $199 after rebate, and I thought it was a great deal. He was even able to successfully unlock the extra 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader. I doubt you'll be able to find a 6800 nu that cheap though.

I'd say that if you could get a 6800 nu for about $239 or so it's a better deal than a 6600 GT at $200. If you like AA and AF, you're definitely better off with the 6800 nu with its 256-bit memory interface. The 128-bit interface of the 6600 GT seriously hampers it with AA and AF.

If you don't like to use AA and AF, get a 6600 GT. It performs about the same as a 6800 nu in most games. You wouldn't notice a tremendous difference between the two.

Thank you.

6600gt actually handles AF very well, better than 6800le. AA is a weak point though.

What are your computer specifications and what size monitor do you have?

Also, at the highest resolution your monitor displays, what is the highest refresh rate allowed?

So if I don't think AA is prio one then I should go for the 6600gt?

I've got a LG 1730P, its a 17" tft. Im running an AMD 64 3200+ Winchester and Corsair TwinX 3200c2 on a Asus A8N-SLI deluxe (I haven't put it together yet though since I haven't bought a graph card yet).

Mark, come on, be nice, do not confuse the poor guy, you are talking 6800LE and he is talking 6800NU. Those are not the same video cards.

So yes since you do not like AA go w/ the GT. But I should say I never played games w/ AA till I got my 6800NU and now I do not think I would go back. HL2 looks awsome!!!
