I just scored a 6600GT SLI rig, hoping to check out the Purevideo capabilities and the interesting mix of gaming performance. (i.e. better than 6800U at times no AA/AF, about like 6800GT often) What I've found so far:

6600GT SLI Benches
System: A64 3800+/Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-SLI/1 GB Corsair PC3200/2- eVGA 6600GT SLI/SB Audigy2
WinXP Home, SP2 Display Driver 66.93

Far Cry, v1.3. All settings on "High", AA/AF app controlled

10X7 4X8X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...51/64/89fps
Regulator...36/59/96fps
Training...32/56/130fps
Volcano...42/72/146fps

11X8 4X8X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...36/48/67fps
Regulator...30/52/105fps
Training...27/52/105fps
Volcano...35/61/125fps

12X10 4X8X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...26/37/55fps
Regulator... 18/41/68fps
Training...18/45/81fps
Volcano...28/50/97fps

Clearly we're running out of memory bandwidth at this point, so I shift to 2X8X:

12X10 2X8X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...43/56/82fps
Regulator... 34/56/75fps
Training...30/55/114fps
Volcano...36/63/138fps

IMO, this is the performance "sweet spot" for the 6600GT SLI at Far Cry. Minimums never drop below 30, averages mid 50s and up.

16X12 2X8X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...25/37/55fps
Regulator... 21/44/79fps
Training...20/40/84fps
Volcano...24/47/104fps

I did not test 16X12 4X8X, the 12X10 4X8X clearly show this entry level SLI combo is not designed for 16X12 4X8X playability.
However; if you're like me and like to game at 16X12 0X0X on occasion:

16X12 0X0X Min/Ave/Max fps
Research...50/60/74fps
Regulator... 31/54/84fps
Training...38/62/113fps
Volcano...36/65/122fps
Looks like we've found the 16X12 sweet spot for the 6600GT SLI.

3DMark2001SE 10X7 0x0x = 19833
3DMark2005 10X7 0x0x = 5277(!)
(my X800XT PE was 5825)

This thing definitely likes 12X10 2X8X and 16X12 0X0X- definitely the gaming sweetspot. I didn't think the standard 4X8X told enough of the story for this rig, the 128bit memory bus makes for some definite saturation points on the memory bandwidth at standard review settings. If you step a bit outside that model, you can see the 6600GT offers some stellar performance if you halve the AA.

Good info here. Should give me some idea of what to expect when I order my second 6600 GT in a few weeks. Thanks for the work.

Saturn, why would you sell your 6800GT and get dual 6600gt's?

Saturn, why would you sell your 6800GT and get dual 6600gt's?

Because I got a good deal on the motherboard, and it will be a good transitionary system until next generation SLI-capable parts are available.

I would like to see those FarCry 1.3 benchmarks with the following command enabled...

\r_hdrrendering 7

Thank you.

I'll do that tonight, NP.

You got another Asus or did you go with a Gigabyte or MSI? My MSI should be here Thursday. I want to get it up and running before the weekend.

Too bad Rollos is only 128Mb Mem bandwidth, I'd whomp him still with Non-SLI, lol :)

Must you thread crap? The guy comes here and posts informative information about the hardware. And you come make fun of his setup? Whats wrong with you?

Be careful what you wish for Garikfox, my other rig has a X800XT PE in it, you won't be "whomping" that.

(or this one in Non AA/AF settings)

(In no way to be construed as a ATI vs nVidia flame, just a comment on the "my card is bigger than yours" style of posting ;) )

Just forced AFR in UT2004, worked well.

Had some difficulty with the HDR, will try again.

You need to disable Antialiasing I think for HDR to work in FarCry...

I'm going to build an SLI setup but I'm going
to wait for the next Gen of SLI stuff.
Maybe most all the bugs will get worked
out by then.
Plus I want to wait for this Gen SLI video cards
to drop in price. :)
So I want a next Gen motherboard and this Gen video cards.

Whats the fun in that? Who buys high end hardware to play games only? I buy them to play period!

Did ChrisRay not just tell you to stop? Again, best to heed his advice. You won't be warned again.
