View Full Version : anyone do flash animations?
ive been re-learning alot of 3d animation stuff since i got lightwave 3d a few months ago. im having a great time but id like to do some 2d animation. do any of you have any experience with 2d (flash). also what software do you use? any suggestions would be helpful.
The most widely used flash editing tool probably is by Macromedia. But there are alternatives such as SWISH, GoLive etc.
Personally for doing 2D animation I use:
-Macromedia Flash MX
-Marcromedia Fireworks MX (for more vector based drawing options)
-Adobe Photoshop (more for other non-vector based image editing)

I have used Macromedia Flash 5 and Macromedia Studio MX and both are GREAT programs. Its amazing how easy they are to get into and start making things once you learn the interface.
I made some really cool (hehe) animations of battles for my senior project last year and I actually had enough time to learn the program (first time I had used Flash MX, and hadnt used Flash 5 since 2001) and make a few different battle scenes. They arent overly complex or realistic, but they look like a good flash game (minus the intera ction ;) ).
Anyway, Macromedia Studio MX is all I can recommend for making Flash.
BTW, what do people make Flash games with? Ive sort of wanted to try this some time, but my fear of programming has sort of pushed me away a bit :p

Yeah I've been using Flash MX and MX 2004 and it's a fantastic program...lots of really cool and fun stuff can be made.
It really isn't too hard to pick it up and with some time you can get really good, really fast. There are lots of imported British magazines at your local Borders and Barnes and Noble ($15/ea though :() that have great tutorials and the site:
www.flashkit.com is a fantastic resource.

A whole lot of Action Scripting and event handling in Flash :p :D
If you know Java it should be fairly straightforward.

Yeah, in MX AS is pretty much JavaScript with some emphasis on OOP, MX 2004, AS 2,0 is completely OOP and is basically Java with Macromedia's own classes, events handlers, objects, components, etc.

I have no clue what any of those acronyms stand for, so I think im just going to forget about making flash games right now ;)

OOP = Object Oriented Programming
AS = ActionScript (Flash's proprietary programming language)\
MX = version 6
MX 2004 = version 7
JEOMK = just ejaculated on my keyboard
