View Full Version : Should Schwarzenegger run for president? (NewsMax Poll)

NewsMax is conducting a poll to find out if the consensus would agree to amend the constitution to allow foreign born residents to become the commander in chief. I myself am not sure how to respond to this one seeing as I haven't seen any indication of his performance in office as governor of California.
Based on his methods of getting things done he sounds like he has the right kind of no nonsense attitude that is necessary for the job and he sounds like an overall honest guy to me. But again, the result of his methods have yet to be seen by non Californians.

I wonder if after this all goes through and an amendment is made, Silvester Stalone will be his running mate (http://politicalhumor.about.com/b/a/017452.htm)?

Yeah I don't see why not, he's not the greatest political mind in history, but neither was Reagan. I see a lot of similarities between the two. I think he has the natural qualities, and the leadership credidentials. He would just have to make sure his past is locked up and bulletproof. I can think of far worse candidates thats for sure...

I really like the guy honestly, I just want to see that he can bring good results first. Not that I really doubt his ability, just his only experience with anything related to legislation/government/etc is his current office in California, and usually those who run for president have experience that runs for much further periods of time (e.g. being a lawyer, judge, etc.)
i like the terminator, he's a good and honest guy who's really trying to do good things for ppls in cali.
too bad i can't vote in the states, i'm a canadian.

They'd have to pass an ammendment that allows non-US born citizens to run the country, and I think we will see pig's fly before that happens.
However, if Arnold did run, I'd vote for him.

True, that is what I was about to point out.

The guy has already shown that he doesn't care what his home country thinks of him judging by what we have seen in the execution incident last week, and surely his loyalties belong to the US now so he does not answer to them. That is the primary reason the constitution is worded to not allow foreign born citizens to run, so in arnolds case we definitely have an exception.
We could fix it so that a foreign born person must get some sort of congressional approval before they can legally enter into a presidential election.

What are you talking about? Reagan was an excelent politician and a great leader. You ask congressmen and woman back during his term how he operate and they will admit Reagan was not dumb. What he did was just be him self and let his crtics have a field day while he went to work behind their backs.
Man what are they teaching you over then in England about the US?
BTW I am TOTALLY opposed to any one not being a born American being president. I don't care who this person is.
Also I am not a fan of Arnold. He is too much of a moderate for me.

It's just general consensus really. In the 80s maggie was the brains, Reagan was the braun (in charm stakes). If you look into a lot of the documentation that came out of the white house from the time, you see exchanges where the president relies on his staff but makes the decisions himself and other occasions where he over rules based on what he thinks is right. Like any good leader should. Yet, his genious was not policy... his policies were good, but his delivery was exceptional. I'd say Blair has that in a smaller dose, excpet Blair's policies are pathetic and his charm only works on middle aged women. Clinton is an example of all charm and no policy. Nixon IMO was a politician who based his career on policy but had no charm whatsoever.
See the point I'm making? I'm not saying he was a bad politician, I'm simply saying he wasn't the worlds greatest throughout history, but he more than made up for that with his other talents such as strong leadership and charm. A classic example is his exchanges with Gorbachev... he went against the advice of many in not accepting certain negotiations and he had red lines. He did not know the Soviet Union was crumbling anyway (no thanks to neocon propaganda :p), so that was an icnredibly strong move to make. His upmost belief in the strength of the US nation, its people and economy was his ultimate bargaining chip... and he used that brilliantly, and from unclassified soviet documents... charmed the pants off gorby (not literally of course). So my point is that he wasn't a facts and figures kinda guy, but then the best presidents never really are...

LOL yea if you compare him to George Washington who was the best president we ever had, then yes you have a point. LOL!
My point is you have liberals who constantly say that Reagan was an idiot and could not do anything for him self. This is not true. You should go back and read his early writings and if you can listen to his radio addresses. Also listen to his speech before Goldwater was nominated for the GOP presidential candidate. He was masterfull and he wrote the speech him self.

Margaret: I may not be able to cook a ham, but at least I can cook up a little grace and civility at the dinner table.
Father: *pauses* Patty, did you know your mother is a *****?

He ahd the common touch in shed loads. He knew peoples concerns, their issues and what he could do to make their lives better. That's what made him an excellent president, and in my opinion that is quite different from pure political ability. A good politician is somebody like Dick Cheyney, who can win debates, has the facts, and has been there. Yet cheyneys biggest problem is how easy he is to characterize as something he's not. All they had with Reagan was his age, which he turned to his advantage many times.
Who is your daddy and what does he do?

Can't tell if you're being serious or being sarcastic, but either way it's pretty funny.

I live in CA, love Arnold, and voted for him in our recall election. I would not support a constitutional amendment to allow him to run for Pres. Leave the constitution alone.

I agree. It's worked longer than any other government in the world has. Lets not screw with it.
