I decided that last night was the night I started using FireFox exclusively and so far, other than being mildly annoyed at how pages load (as the images load the page keeps jumping all over the place) and how slow my scroll button is (is there a way to make it scroll more lines per turn?) I love it.
But, the one thing that really keeps annoying me is that when I open Gmail using the notifer, it opens a new tab in the same Window. That's what I want it to do for all links...but when I click on a link here or in AIM or any other program...it always opens a new window. Does anyone know how to change it so that it only opens new tabs?

The scroll things is usually controled by your mouse software or the mouse contorl panel in the erm control panel.
Not sure about the tabs thing, but by default clicking wiht your middle mouse button on a link opens it in a new tab, that may be a work around for clicking on new links?

hmm...that does work. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
Are you sure the page loading issue isn't just because Firefox is loading those pages into cache the initial time? Any browser will do this.
Press CTRL+SHIFT then click the link or just CTRL and click link. That will open the link in a tab within the same Firefox window.
You can also try some extensions for more functionality and control. I still use the famous Tabbed Browser Extensions without any problems (http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.en) but it seems that TabMix is now more favorable by Mozilla (http://hemiolapei.free.fr/divers/tabmix/tabmix.html.en). I don't use TabMix, but will be checking it out. Anyway, both of these offer a lot of added features to the tabbed interface.

Okay, I'll check those out...I just think it's kinda BS that I have to hold down to buttons to click a link and get it to open in the same window with a new tab. That seems like it should be a basic option in the program, but apparently not.

Ok i found the PERFECT plugin for you, its called Tabbrowser prefrances.
Basicly how it works is when you Left Click on a link thats out of that site it opens it in a new tab. Now your on the new tab, and you click on a review thats internal to the site, it dose NOT open a new tab etc.
Very usefull im gonna use it 24/7 now : )
That is the great thing about firefox, is there is a TON of extentions for almost everyone.

Yup, seconds on Tabbrowser Preferences. I like the fact that it works in the Mac version of Firefox as well. Been using it happily for a while now.
I guess it's personal preference superklye... For me, keyboard = good...fast mouse=slow :) I also like the keybaord control (I don't have to change some global menu item). But, this extension GlowStick found looks promising...checking it out now. This is nice thing, BTW, about Firefox IMO. The community can tweak the crap out of it and I've never found an extension that slows Firefox down (unlike Netscrape's old plug-in model years ago). Good find Glow! :)

So wait...Clay, you prefer having to hold the two buttons and click to get a link to open in a new tab instead of just clicking and having it be a new tab? I guess I don't understand that. :-\
And everyone, thanks for the links/help. I appreciate it! I'm checking out all the plugins right now

I guess I don't understand that. :-\Yes, because sometimes I do want the link to open into a new window. It's not often but it does come up especially when developing on a dual monitor setup...very nice for comparisons at a glance instead of switching constantly between one or more tabs within one window.
There are many very cool extensions, be sure to check them out, you can always uninstall if you decide not to use one.
I just noticed, one thing I miss from TBE that TBP doesn't have is the auto-reload that you could set on individual tabs. Not a big deal, TBP seems to be a lot cleaner and works well. :)

Alright, I guess I can understand that...it just seems, but I guess this is just me, that I would rather have to hold a key or two for a new window to open instead of the way it is now. Meh, that's just differences in preference for ya. :)

Meh, that's just differences in preference for ya. :)No, you're right I agree with you. Now that I am using TBP I do like it and have it setup that way. Before, with TBE, I couldn't do it this way. So TBP rocks. :) You might find CTRL+T to be a nice keyboard shortcut though (new tab) instead of moving up to that new tab icon everytime you want a new tab. Also, CTRL+W is handy too (closes tab).

Yeah, I've been using CTRL+T...it's great. :)
Tabbrowser is awesome, it's exactly what I wanted...there is just one setting that is annoying me and I've gone through the menus three times now, but I can't seem to find an option to disable this:
when I mouse-over a new tab, the tab automatically shows. I don't want a tab to show unless I click on it. Does anyone know how to change this?

No, see, I was using Tabbrowser Preferences and Tabbrowser Extensions or something...the Extensions one was overriding the Preferences, so I took it off and now it's doing everything I want it to. Thanks. :)
Ah cool. Yeah perfect example of how TBE was problematic to some users. Good riddance. TBP all the way now. :)

Here's another question: does anyone else have huge temp increases when using Firefox?
I just rebooted a few minutes ago because my system was running at 52C (ambient was 53) and all I was doing was browsing with FireFox. After the reboot, I was back to 35C (41 ambient), but now, again, after using FF for a few minutes, I'm way back up to 52-53C

Dag, yo. What the hell is going on? I have Winamp going, too...but that's ALWAYS going...rarely do my temps get above 40 whilst surfing and rocking out with IE.
