when I start my Read Hat 8.0 with the GF2 MX400
I get the following error

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)

I used the Latest Drivers from NVidia 3120
If I uninstall these drivers and change my XF86config file back to "nv"and "dri" everything works fine again

When I installed the Kernel I did not get any errors (as far as I could see)

I remember doing the same on the "first" kernel shipped with redhat 8.0. Back then everything worked fine, even when I updated to 2.4.18-17.x.x, I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it with the new kernel
but I had to do a re-install last week, zo I updated
to the 2.4.18-18.8.0 Kernel before trying to install the Nvidia driver. After that......

b.t.w I read this Forum and I used the instructions from the message , that explains how to install the drivers
(don't remember who wrote it)

could anyone PLEASE help me, as I cannot play Quake 3 anymore :-(

read somewhere, I could load the NVdriver manually.
# modprobe NVdriver

modprobe NVdriver

/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver: unresolved symbol tqueue_lock

/lib/modules/2.4.18-18.8.0/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver:
Hint: You are trying to load a module without a GPL compatible license
and it has unresolved symbols. Contact the module supplier for
assistance, only they can help you.

Anyone???

Now, you did install the new drivers from the source, right?

As a side note, though I've had no problem using the RPM's, you may have better luck with the tarballs.

So I have to uninstall both the Kernel and GLX. Then do a re-install with the Tar files?

Any tips? :D

Well, actually, it might be best to make certain you have the kernel source installed. It really does look like you're missing some libraries that the drivers are looking for. After installing the kernel source, uninstall the rpm's (rpm -e NVIDIA_GLX, rpm -e NVIDIA_kernel), then rebuild the source rpm's. If that doesn't work, then try tarballs...

I got the same message and the same breakpoint in the log.

For me it helped turning off the AWARE PNP OS option in BIOS. I also turned on the ASSIGN IRQ FOR PCI VGA option, although my vga is agp.

try this first before you mess anything with the drivers!

and write back if it helped

I Disabled the PnP options in the BIOS
but it didn't work

I think something goes wrong while installing the Kernel driver

I'm going to un-install and reinstall again, if it doesn't work, I'm going to use the .tar files

meanwhile!
Keep posting

Thnx

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Guess What!!! I figured out myself why it didnṫ work!

I FORGOT TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE SOURCE CODE FOR THE UPDATEd KERNEL 2.4.18-18.8.0

I installed Linux, everything worked fine.
I ran Rad Hat Update , And it told me to update the kernel to version 2.4.18-18.8.0
but it didnot tell me to update als my Source Code :(

Thatś why I got all those errors

Problem Solved
