I know the quadro is not designed for games. But I use linux and wonder about performance of games using openGL? For example I have a quadro 700 FX in my dell m60 and would like to see how Doom3 performs when released for linux....

While I'm at it anybody know of any tweaking tips for linux and quadro/nvidia.
Im using Maya 6 with fedora core 2.

Thanks.

I couldnt find any reviews for that card specifically, but the specs are very good. Im sure it can play games reasonably well.

The chips different apparently. So games won't run so well....I know directX and runs games on my quadro pretty poorly even at lowish resolutions. I wondered whether opengl might be differnet.

maybe it is because of your driver. i couldnīt say that the Quadro FX Go700 is really poor in DirectX games. of course, it is much better in OpenGL, but give it a chance with different drivers...

The drivers for the quadros dont contain the many fixes, tweaks and optimizations for countless games as the Geforce drivers does, so there is always a chance the games wont run, run slow or run buggy as hell..

Modded my 9700Pro to FireGL once, Doom III was bugged out and didnt work, Dawn of War wouldnt even start..

I have played UT2004 (Linux) on an M60... even at 1920x1200. I currently have an M70 though.. games play fine.. but I haven't loaded Linux on it yet.

Apparently games run on quadros fine Linus or windows well at least Far Cry, UT2k4. look at 3d professor.com's review of quadros ;)

I have a Dell Workstation with a Quadro FX 3400.... games run perfect. even better on opengl then the geforce cards. DirectX games are not an issue either. Quadros do a lot of processing in thier GPU's that Geforce's do not, ex: Hardware Antialiasing, hardware anisotropic filtering. Makes the games and graphics much smoother then geforce boards when those are turned on. I play DOOM 3 and it works smooth. I don't see an issue with quadro boards. Its a professional card designed for graphics. Games are graphic intensive. so it only makes sense that games would work well with it.

Quadro 4400fx SLI on dual opteron will play games better than SLI 6800ultra.

Period.

Doom 3 on quadro 4400 SLI gains almost 20fps over 6800ultra SLI.
Riddick is able to play with shader 2.0++ without the performance hit that is on 6800ultra

DX plays well too.

There are enhancements in the core of the 4400 quadro over the 6800ultra.

oh..and the quadro has 512mb of mem

pix/proof are in the main hardware forum

This is on win64 and 32. However on suse(9.2) you get full 3d accel but no SLI yet.
