View Full Version : FT 6800 GT 4 your x800 pro w/ati silencer or vivo
6800 eVGA GT, works like a charm, sick of nvidia's horrible driver support, want back to ati. Looking for a x800 pro that has an ati silencer so it can do a good enough oc to bring it to near GT speeds, or a vivo that can oc well and/or unlock to 16-pipes. Oc'd the GT for a day @ the sig speeds of 421/1.14, worked fine, no artifacts, just too hesitant to keep the oc. Not looking for a plain ol un-oc'able x800 pro ;)
Thankls for looking

If you don't mind me asking, what's so bad about nVidia's driver support? I'm not trying to be a smartass, just wondering what you're referring to.
well I had a x800 pro w/an ati silencer, traded it for the above card-I had problems with it from day one, but kept it a week because I loved it so much. Their drivers have speed, iq and workable games all in one set, I cant get all 3 with nvidia. I have white lines all over in hl2, stuttering in farcry, water banding also in HL2 and right now hl2 dm is about all I play consistantly right now. I dont touch much opengl stuff, so the loss in performance there is meaningless to me. I really didnt mind these issues until after i had the x800 pro for a week and saw what bugless gaming was like, and now im drooling to get one back. Nvidia has a beautiful piece of hardware in the gt, but the nv40 has never taken off drivers-wise imo.
I dont take it as a smartass comment, you're alright ninja, I like you =)

Ah shucks, thanks. :)
That's interesting to know, I didn't realize that there was such a difference. I gotta say, it does bug me how much banding there is in the water with HL2 but I'm locked in with this 6800GT now and I play a lot of OpenGL games so it's something I have to overlook. I would certainly look forward to these problems being fixed, considering the card cost $400. I would love to get my hands on an X800 sometime to make the comparison though. :)
yea, its like at the time of purchase, it was either a 12 pipe card-that people labeled a 9xxx on steriods, or a 16 pipe sm3.0 compatible card that would play doom 3 with all the bells and whistles. Well here we are 7 months later, doom 3 was a dud, sm3.0 hyped way too early, and the x800 series is proving to be more than just a roid card while nvidia drivers continue to degrade my cards performance. The 7x.xx series has i.q roughly as bad as some det sets from back when Far cry first came out and nvidia was doing what they could for the fx series to do dx9. The 6x.xx series gives me tons of bugs, but decent i.q. For $400 why can't I get a driver that has everything. I'd sooner get one solid driver every 4 months than a new half assed beta every 4 days.yknow? =)

I agree. I largely stay away from betas but since the 67.02 and 67.66's came out I've been using them to reduce shimmering. I'm satisfied overall though, and hopefully during the year nVidia will provide us with good drivers that let the card perform the way it should.

Shimmering..another thing i've been annoyed with lol. The 66.77's are the best i;ve found so far, the version A by xtreme g
Errr :: reads back through thread :::...I guess after bashing the card I'm not gonna get any takers :rofl
