Just how much of a risk am I taking by using this program? Here is exactly how I set it up.

I am sharing files, but only Star Trek Enterprise season 4 episodes. Those are the only items I share. I don't share any movies or music files.

The only files I download are Star Trek Enterprise episodes (sometimes a few TNG episodes) and also some Doctor Who.

Am I likely to be targeted and/or sued?

I wouldn't do it, dude. I don't trust those file sharing programs farther than I can throw my foot.

Very slight. If you live somewhere in a major city then your chance of getting sued increases.

Hell maybe I do need to quit using the program altogether then. My luck has been real bad anyway so if anyone is going to get in trouble it's me. I might just go ahead and download the last few episodes I want this weekend and then quit it. I've heard you can get things through USENET and it's hard to trace that, so maybe that's a better option and I'll look into it.

I was just kinda hoping that since I don't download or share much in the way of music or movies that I would be OK.

Bit Torrent, using Azureus in conjuction with the SafePeer plugin, is your friend. :)

For the occasional rare thang it can be a good place to start, but defintely not a program to leave open.

Holy did a mod name this thread or did I really put WinMIX and not WinMX?

I'm just going to finish downloading what I have queued up and then go ahead and forget about it.

Part of what is frustrating about this: some of what I'm downloading isn't available on DVD and if it was I'd be more than happy to PAY for it. But until it's out on DVD I feel kind of forced into doing this.

Actually I'm pretty sure it's OK for you to download TV shows that haven't been released on DVD or VHS. I think.

No way dude...TV shows are some of the most illegal things to download. The networks, producers, creators, etc all get screwed. Just because they don't say it, like the NFL, MLB and NBA all do: it's HIGHLY illegal to tape/rebroadcast/share without the express written and oral consent of the network and those that own the intellectual and property rights.

Yep, it wouldn't be as bad if the commercials were not edited out, but since they are im sure it pisses off the networks alot.

btw i use emule & the-realworld.de to get all my tv shows.
