OK - since getting this new MoBO I've had both the 6800GT and the USB controllers on IRQ 16 (windows made this decision for me).

I can only see settings in the Bios for IRQ's 1-14??? - were I can select either auto or reserved.

Does anyone know how to get the USB controllers off of IRQ 16?

thanks.

one thing you can try, but once you do it, it's a huge pain to go back

go to device manager, and go into the item on top..uniprocessor system. then change the driver the APCI system.

the uniprocessor system assigns virtual irq's and the ACPI uses real irqs. its not a promise that it will work, but i have seen it work before.

Its impossible to assign IRQ's with the NT line of Windows. I've looked everywhere and tried everything. It's impossible. Someone PLEASE prove me wrong. PLEASE!

I do feel your pain. My 6800 Ultra shared IRQ 16 with my onboard network card. Yeah, lots of fun. Games stuttered whenever the network line was plugged in. Eventually I just slapped in another network card and it fixed my problems. I suggest you do the same if you keep having problems, just with a USB 2 card instead of a network one! =D

You can get your irq's in order you just can't really do it 100% in windows, first off if you don't use all of your usb ports in the back of your pc then turn them off in dev mgr. Check with dxdiag in irq's and see which controller is being shared, like for me #16 was shared R9800 256/with usb host controller 82801DB/24C2 if you disable the device that will kill the usb port in the back of your rig usually two. Your sound card sometimes will have to be manually moved around in pci slots until you find one shared with like a firewire/usb then disable the firewire/usb in dev mgr. So it will look like this in dxdiag. I still have two live ports in the back I use one for my mouse.
