I am smiling. Want to know why? I just spent 8 hours having a blast playing my favorite game not fuming over how awful the performance and instability of my 6800 GT was.
I got my Athlon 64 FX-55, X850 XT Platinum system in today. The first thing I installed was EverQuest II. No tweaking, no overclocking just install the game and run it. After I downloaded all of the EQ2 patches etc. I logged into the game and set High Quality at 1280x1024 @ 85 Hz. The performance of this system is in a word, stunning. The image quality is outstanding and the performance is smooth as glass. I am seeing things in EQ2 that I never saw with my P4 3.4C and 6800 GT. I just played EQ2 for about 8 hours without a hiccup, no studder, no 3d lag. I went everywhere, Varsoon, Thundering Steppes, Antonica, Nektulos, The Commonlands, the Enchanted Lands and Zek. I joined large groups in Varsoon and the Crypt of Betrayal and fought large groups of MOBs. No 3D lag whatsoever. No visual artifacts. Every time I thought I might have caught my system lagging, it turned out to be something like I was running in water and that is why I slowed down or there was some spell that had been cast on me. Riding the Griffin in Antonica and the common lands was breathtaking. I cant find anything wrong with this setup in EQ2. Zoning is fast, loading new mobs and characters is so smooth that it is hardly noticable. There was not even any lag on the crowded nettleville market row. I did not run any frame rate tests or benchmarks, there was no need to. There was never a time in 8 hours of play when the game was not playable. There was never so much as a hint of instability in that 8 hours. This system was built and configured by monarchcomputer.com. Here are it's stats:
Antec Plusview 1000 AMG case
Antec NeoPower 480 Watt Power Supply
2 Antec 80 mm case fans
4 Antec 80 mm smart fans with remote sensor
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
Gigabyte GA K8NF-9 Socket 939
Thermaltake AMD K8 Venus 7+ Hi CPU Fan
2 GB Corsair TWINX2048-3200PT
2x WD 740GD 74 GB SATA 10K Raptor on Raid 0
Lite ON CDRW
Samsung DVD+-RW
Mitsumi 7in1 Floppy
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Windows XP Professional With Service Pack 2
Bellsouth Fastaccess Extreme 3 MBit DSL
The setup was easy, the system configuration was perfect. It runs so quiet, I have to listen to hear it at all. The game installed quickly and the patches downloaded in no time. This system runs EQ2 the way it should run. I was able to focus on playing the game not the poor performance and instability of my computer. Problem solved, nuff said. Thanks monarchcomputer.com for the computer. Thanks SOE for the great game.
Anyone want to buy a 6800 GT/P4 3.4C system cheap? :)
I will not be at all surprised if this post is deleted by the moderator. You should not delete it, it is the truth. My 6800 GT choked on EQ2. This X850 XT runs EQ2 like it was Quake 3.
