I currently own a x700 pro pci express card. It comes with 256mb gddr3 memory. I am not the happiest with its performance. I cannot use dual monitors at the moment because either the DVI port is bad or ATI is having fun driver issues. In any case. I want to switch cards but don't want to switch to the 6600 gt if there isn't really a gain in speed. I would like some links to websites please with proof of better performance please. thanks ahead of time for the insite

I might just get the exchange done today for the 6600gt but more insight would help me feel better about spending a little more.

Well my 6600GT handles my dual LCD's perfectly with no visible performance hit, so that should solve your dual display issues. :)

And yes, the 6600GT is technically a little faster than a X700. They both have 8 pipelines however...

X700 core = 400mhz
X700 mem = 350mhz (700 effective)

6600GT core = 500mhz
6600GT mem = 500mhz (1000mhz effective)

Now this isn't gonna be a huge performance boost, so you might wanna consider a 6800GT instead, or perhapps sell your X700 so at least you can get some money back. But yes the 6600GT will perform slightly better, and as mentioned the dual displays works great.

One more thing, I assume you are talking about the plain X700. If you meant the X700Pro then the 6600GT only has a tiny performance edge, and if you meant the X700XT then that is onpar with the 6600GT performance.

There is no X700Xt. ;)

Really? Huh... I got my information from here (http://users.erols.com/chare/video.htm).

X700XT core = 475mhz
X700XT memory = 525mhz (1050mhz effective)

X700XT got pulled. Never actually went into production AFAIK. So... it has to be an X700 Pro ;)

Yep. The x700xt was reviewed by most review sites, but got pulled at the last moment. Only thing available is the x700pro. The x700XT will most likely never see the light of day since ATi's X800/x800xl is already suppose to MSRP at the $200/300 pricepoint.

ive heard about some issues with the agp 6600's. not with the PCI-E cards. so, id say its worth a shot :)

I got the 6600gt by bfg. Thanks for all the information. Its a very speedy card and even though the increase for half life 2 isn't that great with the card, my doom 3 score is a lot better now. So is unreal tournament 2004 which I play a lot. Thanks for the info.
