Howdy all, here's my setup:

Debian 3.0
GeForce 3
XFree86 4.1.0.1
Gnome 2.0
GTK2

I've finally got my NVidia drivers working. My problem is, after Gnome2 starts up the WM, starts Nautilus, etc...

It draws the top menu, draws the first 4 icons, then freezes half way through the 5th icon. Gnome2 is unresponsive at that point. I can move my mouse around but I can only flip the power switch to get out of Gnome.

Whats the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've never seen that happen before, but a couple of things to look at:

Is this an AMD processor? If so, have you tried the mem=nopentium trick?

Does disabling either AGP (Option "NvAgp" "0") or the RENDER acceleration (Option "NoRenderAccel" "true") in your XF86Config(-4) file help?

Have you tried a different window manager (e.g. windowmaker, icewm, fluxbox, blackbox, etc.)? Have you tried a different desktop environment (either none or KDE)? That might offer a clue.
