Im not sure how much server space the member list uses, but I was looking through it today and I noticed that there are around *500 pages* of members that have NO POSTS AT ALL. Some accounts are days or weeks old, some much more.

Just a suggestion if server space\resources = money, but you could probably remove the accounts of people that have 0 posts and havent been here in the past 3 months. Thatd be nearly HALF of the member list off the server, and it wouldnt effect the forums because they never posted.

Again I dont know what kind of resources these things use or if you care at all, but it seems like quite a waste of space. Not to mention 500 possible user names that cant be used.

No big deal really, just thought id point it out if itd help you guys out.

Hehe, yea I noticed that as well. I never understood why someone would register and never post... maybe to use the search feature.

I agree. This wouldn't be half-bad of an idea. A lot of sites do something like this. Clear out the rif-raff (and UDawg hasn't posted in almost 3 months, so then he'd be dethroned and we'd ALL move up another spot...MUAHAHAHAHA)

I think you would want to see the accounts last activity, then delete the accounts that have not been used in like the last year or so.

Yeah i suppose that as well .. they must be registering for the search feature & maybe other benefits like the special discounts .

discounts?

Well i'm talking about special offers like this one :
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/nvnews_discount/

oh & also some people might register just in case they get in trouble with thier hardware or video cards .. so they know where to come & look for help .

The records in the database for a single account aren't expensive from a disk space or resources standpoint. Even for tens of thousdands of unused accounts the impact is negligble. If we had hundreds of millions of accounts like this then it would impact query performance and disk space but just a few hundred aren't going to matter. :)

Ah ok. I've been to Milwaukee a few times for conferences, driven by campus there but I thought UW had a campus there too.

Yeah, that's UWM (Milwaukee). Madison is just UW. UWM Panthers and the UW Badgers. UW is in Madison and are probably our most hated rivals...besides Cinci, Louisville, Depaul and the rest of D1. :)

Oh I know UW is in Madison. Anyone from a Big Ten school knows (well, should know) where all of the other main campuses are. :) I did not know, though, that UWM had it's own D1 program. You learn something new everyday.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult your intelligence or anything...a lot of people confuse UW and UWM so I thought I would just get it all out there in the first place. But you were one step ahead of me.

Good show, clerks. Good show...

I say if the useless members are not taking up resources then leave them there. #1 it would take ages to delete them all one by one and #2 it makes us look like we have sh*tloads of members. :D

Feel free to delete UDawg's account though, we need a new Spam King........oh yea, you can kill Vamp's also.

Actually it only takes a couple secs to delete them using some custom queries but they're hardly using any resources so I let them be.

deleting them serves no purpose... like gib's said... makes the member list look big... and this in turn is good for advertisers...

big user list is like the e-pen0s version of big post count

if the impact is negligible... why remove it...

besides if it were removed, when else would we see grown men asking for tongue during frenching sessions?
