Have you considered audio books? Someone I know is pretty happy with the Pimsleur audio courses. Linguaphone is also pretty good. Otherwise I've heard of good things about Rosetta Stone software in general, not sure about their Spanish course though.

Your local Library will probably come in useful here. Probably a good idea to at least try the courses at your Library. That way you can see which course is best for you.

Books alone will never work, you'll never be able to master the pronunciation. The best way to learn a second language IMO is to take at least two intro courses at a local community college so that you can learn the basic grammar as well as establish a working vocabulary, then at least every other day watch a cartoon that is in that language. Since cartoons are aimed at kids they have the easiest to understand dialog.
