the mysterious touchpad...

anyone know how these things work...im on my laptop right now and ive always wondered how it works. seems as though it doesnt work by pressure and instead uses some method of detected the small electric charge in our fingers. this explains why a pencil or pen wont work....maybe...

any touchpad experts out there?
