Hey everyone. Check this out, I have 2 hard drives:

1. 80 Gig - Windows XP Pro
2. 10 Gig - Suse 9.1

I got a good idea to install Windows 2000 on the 10 Gig this morning but I have run into a huge problem. I booted from my Windows 2K CD and did a normal format/partition on the 10 Gig HDD. After the setup files had been installed, it would not reboot into the Win 2K installation screen. I tried to boot back up into my Windows XP pro and it looks like the Suse Linux has taken over! I keep getting this GRUB loading error and it won't let me boot into Windows XP. Looks like some of the Linux stayed around huh?

EDIT: I tried to run the Win XP Pro CD to repair the MBR and etc but it didn't work. I still get this error:

GNU GRUB

grub>

Any idea on how to get rid of this crap?

Do you tried the MBR related commands in the rescuse console, too? I don't know these exactly but it should be wo of then. One is names FIXMBR (i think, thats the name). With these it should work.

I hope i'm able to help

Yeah, I just tried that and it still doesn't work. The only problem I have about reformatting is redownloading all my Steam Games. That takes forever and a day! Steam is slow enough even with a 1.5 MB connection. I honestly don't know how Linux got that deep into my system. Whenever I try to boot from my XP Pro HDD, it will go straight to that GRUB command line and nothing else. I guess I'll have to reformat. I'll wait around to see if anyone else pops up with anything. . . . . I just have to have this done before I go back to school tonight or else I won't have anything to do my VB.net Projects on.

Hi,

go to the suse page. In their support database is an article about getting rid of bootloaders.

Got it fixed. Thanks for those who helped. I just reformatted, nothing big.
