I played the demo last week with BFG 6800 GT OC and suddenly the card shutdown itself and waiting for RMA the card. Now I just installed Leadtek Geforce 6600 GT card and fired up the demo and very surprised to see the game ran very smooth at 1024x768 16xAF with all the options maxed included HDR, the performance is much the same as it did on BFG 6800 GT OC. :D

No it not with Forceware 67.66 driver, it ran very smoothly. I can see you using older Forceware 65.73, you should update it to 67.66 and running SM 3.0 smoothly. ;)

thanks for the info i'm going to see if i can download the demo today i'm glad it runs smooth on 6600gt, thats what i have now

sm 3.0 is faster than sm 2.0, it's HDR what slows down the GFX

Use this (http://home.planet.nl/~hulst578/Splinter.torrent) torrent link which I been downloaded, you will need an application to download torrent files, I recommend Bit Tornado (http://www.bittornado.com/) which I am use as default program. :)

However I didnt noticed HDR slow down the GFX, I been turn off and on HDR to see the peformance differences, actually here are no differences, I am very impressed with HDR performance.

really! i've seem some threads where some are complaning about the hit they get from HDR, but them again the didn't state what res and aa,af settings they had, did you run the game on the system on your sig? and also thanks for the links, once i get off work i'll download the demo

Well, what do you call 'smooth' ? Please use Fraps to give us a more clear idea on what kinda fps you're getting with that 6600GT.
With my PC (see SIG) I get a framerate from 20 to 70 @ 1024 x 768 , 32bits color , 72hz screen refreshrate fullscreen, 2xAA and 4xAF, ALL advanced SM3.0 submenu options enabled, trilinear filtering, high quality textures, hardware softshadow mapping. The only thing disabled is V-sync. My Nview Forceware setting is set to Quality and the GT @ 400/1100 on 67.66.
A framerate of 20 to 32 in places with lighting and HDR fx is still NOT what I call a very good framerate. It's playable, but I really hope the final code will run HDR fx at least 10 frames per second better. :(

Yes on my system in my signature at the bottom.
^ ok, but use FRAPS then, so you can give some solid numbers at which settings... otherwise it still won't make much sense.

I downloaded latest Fraps and tested, the score much the same as you.
At 1024x768x32 16xAF, all settings maxed included HDR set ON and Forceware's quality setting, I get 17 to 30fps in places with HDR and then I turned off HDR in the option and back to the game, to my surprise I get 17 to 30fps in same places, it much the same in previous Splinter Cell titles Here is no performance loss when turn on HDR, with HDR on, the game run much smooth as well as HDR turn off too, I never get as low as 10fps, it never slowdown or chopping like some tests in 3DMark 2005. :)

If it still not make sense to you so I have 2 screenshots with HDR ON and OFF, HDR didnt caused massive performance hit, it hardly no differences in fps, HDR give just about no performance loss. On the famous spot screenshot released in many forums:
With no HDR...

You notice almost no difference in fps when turn on HDR. :)

Erm I didnt find OPT in the option, I dont got a clue what OPT is stand for, is it Tone Mapping or Parallax Mapping or High Quality Soft Shadows? :p

That's about an 18% difference in Frames from HDr/noHDR. Was that with all options for SM3 enabled? Parallax Mapping, tone mapping, softshadows.

Yes all options enabled, guess the fps lowered because of 16xAF, will check with 8xAF.
Edit: With 8xAF, No HDR get 20fps and with HDR get 17fps, hardly any difference.

it's short for optimizations, which are found in the nvidia control panel, you know the 3 filtering OPT that you can enable

Ahh I see... these default 3 settings are:
Trilinear optimization = ON
Anisotropic mip filter optimization = OFF
Anisotropic sample optimization = ON
I will turn on Anisotropic mip filter optimization and see what the fps are. :)
Hmmm very interesting fps numbers, here is no different with 8xAF but when turn on 16xAF, with no HDR I get 20fps - 4fps increase, with HDR I get 17fps - 4fps increase. :)

At the very beginning of the game my frame rate just about halves if i enable HDR, 23===>16 fps, also the best drivers i found are the 71.81's, you can check out my benchmarks here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46343&page=15&pp=15
ps, before you change drivers load up a couple of places in the game with Fraps running and note the FPS and then do the same when you change drivers and you should see a jump in FPS.

Heh :) i guess we're talking on different levels here becuz in this demo i find a 3 to 5 fps difference quite alot. The difference between 24 and 28 fps in this demo is quite noticable to me.
BTW, I should indeed check my optimizations too. Do they increase performance or decrease it ?
macatak in what resolution did you do these benchmarks???
