Nforce 3 limiting my DVD-RW to PIO

I'm currently running ubuntu with linux kernel 2.6.10-3.

When my system boots, I'm getting the following message:

Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00alpha2
ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx

Yet it detects my SATA as 133

I then do a hdparm -d /dev/hda (hda because the harddrive is sda being SATA and all :P)

hdparm -d /dev/hda gives the following message:

/dev/hda:
using_dma = 0 (off)

I do a hdparm -d1 /dev/hda and get:

/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)

If I do a hdparm -i the message is as follows:

Finally hdparm -t /dev/hda gives the speed as 3.48mb/s


Just wondering if anyone can help?

The chipset onboard is an nforce3 from an Epox 8kdaj motherboard

well,

3.84 MB/s isn't bad for for a "PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108"... that's something like 24x!

my old DVD-A105 is about: (with "using_dma = 1 (on)" )
Timing buffered disk reads: 10 MB in 3.66 seconds = 2.73 MB/sec

And did you run hdparm as root? if not, try it again as "root" ...

24x? the drive is 52x :)

and yup running it as boot :(

Well my A105 should be something like 40x...


but you "must" know 40x (as 52x) is MARKETING... it's "top" / "peak" speed not the average...
