View Full Version : G70 is former codenamed NV50
Is this GPU exactly the same which is expected to be released in April this year???
It means NV know something about r520 performance when they say their GPU is faster than ATIs...
Yes-GF Go6800U performs pretty well with 12pipes 450mhz clock...Then you can imagine (G70?? :D )24-pipe GPU clocked about 500mhz or higher(possible with 90nm) 8 improved VS and many other improvements :)
I'm pretty sure there were some modifications to the nv40's for the g70. I'm also sure its not a 24 pipeline part but might be wrong.
The physics chip that you guys have been talking about is made for the (can't remember the name of the physics engine (nova something I think) physics engine in the Unreal 3 engine. And its a seperate add on card from what I have heard. Maybe in the future it will be added to graphics cards, it would be a very logical step. But this physics chip can handle something like 500,000 bones per character.
Pretty interesting stuff.
24 pipe is right ;)
Tweaking the pixel pipeline on each quad block is also right.....
or so I have been whispered too!
:)

This is the first time I heard about the physics chip, interesting!

Hmm........wonder if the SLI connector could be used to connect daughter cards like a physics chip. If I recall correctly didn't 3dfx's Rampage supposed to be a dual chip solution where you had two chips doing seperate work (Sage processor in Rampage)?

If G70(probably 110nm) doesn`t have 24 pipes it seems that there are such major improvements (if it`s said to be a little faster than 24pipe r520 made in 90nm)....
I think if 16pipe(??)G70 is faster(or as fast as..)than 24pipe r520 NV will do GREAT work! :)

If 24 is right and ATI releases the R520 with 32 pipes
nvidia is going to get there butt handed to them on a plate.
Let's hope the 520 is 24 pipe right along with nvidia's card.
Then maybe towards fall bring on the 32 pipe cards. ;)

LOL you have not heard about PhysX chip yet?
This is old news now
PhysX is the world's first Physics Processing Unit (PPU), an entirely new category of processor that promises to revolutionize gaming in the same way that the graphics processing unit (GPU) did in the 1990s. By offloading software physics processing from the CPU and GPU, the PPU completes the triangle of gameplay, graphics and physics, balancing the load of these processing tasks and enabling pervasive interactive reality in tomorrow's games.

Take a look at it! I think its going to be a 3DFX VooDoo again!
Add in physics PCB card on top your SLI setup is going to be $$$$ till Nvidia or ATI buys them out.

I think the g80 has 24 and the g70 has 16. the g70 should be 25-30% faster then the 6800's specially on the newer games that will push vertex processing limits. the g80 is quite a bit faster ;)

Hmm..Does it mean when you said about GPU which is ``little faster``than r520 and NV is testing it you have thought about G80?? :D
The new GPU from NV has been imtimated to by a few sources as a 6 quad gpu not 4 quad like NV40.

I heard of the PhysX chip a few days ago, but I'm not so sure if it's gonna be the new Voodoo add-on card. Wouldn't NV and ATi develop and intrgrate something like that in their future chips?

yeah I think the g80 is the r520 competition, don't see how a 16 pipeline card can match a 24 no matter what is done to it. Its possible for a tweaked nv40 with more efficient vertex processing and higher clocks to get close to the r520 wouldn't think it would be faster though, would be a good interm card till the r520 is released. the g80 would be the best bet for E3 ish time though.

True the 4 quad cards are good mid range cards for this up coming line though.
to Razor1: do you read PMs? ;)
hey thx for the heads up didn't see your PM sorry
de nada..and remember to check your PMs daily :)

Sounds intresting, but what is a name really?
Cant we just call it, the next product, and the refresh the 'refresh product' ?
Anyways, i Love the jucy rumors :D gotta have more!
I think I read somewhere that it,s name maybe the Geforce 6 6600 and Geforce 6 6800 gt
latinmike, shrink your sig. Please and thank you. 10 lines or less.

so, NV50 is now G80, or is G80 not NV50?
