It very interesting reading, Nvidia are very good at kept the secret very long and confused people thought next few months will see NV40 refresh codenamed NV48 but it was cancelled in Dec, Nvidia see no need to launch it. Then words spread across forums about NV50 wont be released until end 2005 but surprise surprise the real NV50 will be launch in a few months. :afraid:

Sounds intresting, but what is a name really?

Cant we just call it, the next product, and the refresh the 'refresh product' ?

Anyways, i Love the jucy rumors :D gotta have more!

It not, G70 is showed listed in newest leaked Forceware 75.90 driver:

NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0090.1 = "NVIDIA G70"
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0091.1 = "NVIDIA G70 "
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0092.1 = "NVIDIA G70 "
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0093.1 = "NVIDIA G70 "
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0094.1 = "NVIDIA G70 "
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_009D.1 = "NVIDIA G70GL"
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_009E.1 = "NVIDIA G70GL "

Yes but we don't know what G70 is now do we? My point is that the inquirer always jumps to conclusions without any real info.

I think no-one really knows what the G70 is... it'd be the first time they've left the whole "NVXX" naming convention, unless they're just moving to a more sensible naming thing, so G7x = GeForce 7000 series. But... hmmm. Tough to say.

Could be the PS3 GPU I spose...? I personally don't trust the inquirer at all.

They generally pump out 2 or more theories, then one of them is right by sheer luck and they can go home thinking "just like we said"..
like with the many versions of NV40 pipeline amount before its launch etc..
think there was like 4-5 versions on that story posted by them hehe..

does it mean G70 is the new NVIDIA GPU???Competitor against r520???
wow..i wonder it will be based on new architecture or it will be very improved NV40 core...But i`ve heard NV said ``no new architecture until 2006`` or something like that....
PS.NVs next gen GPU must be very fast if they want to beat r520 if it`s lates rumours will be true(750mhz core 900mhz Mem, 24 pipes etc.)

well this might be the desktop line yes, I'm thinking that the entire upper line of thier next gen cards are ready, because there were quite a few G70's listed in that driver suggesting that multiple chips/cards are ready.

PS those GL codes are the quadros.

IIRC nvidia said that nv50 wont be released untill 2006 when SM4.0 is feasable and WGF is released with longhorn

yes that`s right but present NV50(or G70)maybe have ``only`` very extended Sm3.0(for example 3.0a)and Nv4x architecture with some major improvements which allow to be faster than r520...
as we remember in some drivers 7x.xx series there were some information about NV48 and in some of them there were writes that NV48=GF6800...Maybe NV48 is o.11micro. version NV40 on PCI-E(without HSI)and with new Video Processor.
Maybe G70 is r520 killer and NV have known that???As we remember NV40 was much faster and much better than ecspected....But this is only may opinion:)

all this power wasted on gpu's it seems. I mean every game out in the last year has pretty much been more cpu dependant. Hopefully they'll push this back to 06, I dont see the need for it in 05, 06 is when the full sm3.0 games using the likes of unreal engine 3.0, etc. will be out, we'll need the power then.

well the more graphics power the more graphics we can do that has no impact CPU usage

PPP anyone?

Programmable Primitive Processor :)

PPP was supposed be in NV40 silicon but Nvidia dont have time to do it so they will have the time to put it in G70 silicon.

Thats what I meant, g70 might bring PPP ;)

Bring on g70!!! Then I can get me a 6800 GT for dirt cheap :) lol

well the more graphics power the more graphics we can do that has no impact CPU usage

And developers would prolly take the balance of GPU/CPU power available into concideration when they make games..
Instead of scaling up physics and more CPU bound things, they just push more shaders and stuff..
So in the end it will prolly work out..

As Sweeny said (think it was him) about MSAA today, the internal aliasing is becoming more of a issue then edges, look at Riddick for example, the bumpmapped textures produce alot of aliasing inside them due to the bumpmapping..
So a good boost in bandwidth might enable us to go back to SSAA as a "standard" AA sometime, since MSAA will make less and less difference as it only works on polygonal edges, and the surface emulation effects like bump, normal, Vdisp/parallax only gets more and more comon.
Then there is HDR which is also a bit of a Bandwidth hog..

My source tells me thats its going to have 1024mb of memory and 64 pipes and will cost $1000 and you will need a 1KW power supply boy would that be nice to spend $1000 bucks and the have to do it all again in 6 months. Money Money Money.

My apologies MUYA I was just being sarcastic. I'm just getting tick off with lack of funds to upgrade all the time. Boy do I wish I could.

My point is thats getting mad one has to spend $1000 plus every 6 months to stay up to date. Power supplies are becoming a problem look at how every one went mad when the 6800 series came out there were thousand of posts about watts and amps,
any way the Pentium 4 is 5 years old started at 1.3 and now we are up to 3.8 so if we to 5 years in to the future we might have 3.8 x 2.9 = 10Ghz+ cpu's.

So here my point its not as if my salary or most other people on this planet salaries are going to multiply at that rate.

My system that I have I've been dreaming about for 4 years now and now that is old and redundante I can afford it.
