Is possible to run an sli motherboard with only 1 6800ultra SLI in it for a while untill i can afford the second. Or do you have to have two vid cards from the word go.

All SLI motherboards will work with only 1 card installed. Usually there's a jumper or BIOS setting that lets you switch between single-card and dual-card operation. When set to single-card, the motherboard functions like a regular non-SLI board.

In fact I am doing that very thing with my setup (see below). I just have one eVGA 6800 GT for now and in a year when the prices are a lot lower (and the SLI drivers are better) I will get another one.

It'll work fine with 1 video card, just make sure that before you try going into SLI mode...both of your video cards end up with the same bios on them.
