I'll say this Rip it's 399 at Best Buy. I didn't realize BFG GT's cost so much. He could get another brand much cheaper. Try pricewatch, and froogle it.

LOL, that makes sense. The one with Doom3 is cheaper?

We can get the cheaper one with the two fan cooler at BestBuy locally. The other one would have to be ordered.

Is there really any difference between these cards? Which cooler is more effective?

*EDIT* The one we can get locally doesn't come with Doom3, even though it does have the same cooler (2 fans) as the one in the newegg link w/Doom3.

IMO Rip the stock cooling on GT's suck from an overclockers standpoint. If he wants to OC and have a cool card grab that new zalman HSF with the GT.

Don't really care about overclocking, just want to run linux. I just didn't like the style of the heatsink on the best buy card. Yah I know whaa whaaa. But what the hell. 400 bones. I'd go for an alternate brand, but lifetime warranty, can't beat that.

Yeah guys why did BFG make two versions of the card like this with two different coolers? It doesn't make a lot of sense... Haproot and I are kinda scratching our heads right now wondering why they did this and if there are any meaningful differences between the two cards.

Like he said he doesn't want to o/c... But o/c aside, which cooler do you guys think would be the better one?

Well, I'm gonna go down to BB and pick this bad boy up. I'll post some pics in a bit. I figure what the heck, if I don't like it I can return it I guess. BBS :afro:

So you settled up with selling your 9800XT & get a 6800GT/U ??

No... This was for a friend (haproot). He needs something for his Linux box tonight and he was struggling with which BFG GT to get - there are two versions with the same specs, different coolers.

Heh the cheaper one looks more tempting .. it has a custom cooler which looks to me better than the stock one & comes with Doom3 :D

Yeah I like that cooler to. Haproot prefers the other one. Strangely though, the one at BestBuy doesn't come with Doom3.

Now to make it work in the mess. LOL. :D
Also runnin a shuttle with an X800XT PE BTW I'll do some comparison with that in Windows against the 6800 in Linux. Just for fun tho. Been running a 9700 pro in linux, but the drivers are absolutely horrible, 6800 is going to make it all better. yay for linux support. Thanks Rip and All.

I thought the reference cooler was supposed to be better than the dual fan one but I could be wrong.

Looking good haproot . enjoy that bad boy :)

I thought the reference cooler was supposed to be better than the dual fan one but I could be wrong.

the refrence cooler is just ok IMO . the custom one looks better for its thicker copper heatsink & dual fans .. what makes that less efficent ??
heck even my MSI 1 slot copper cooler is better than the stock .

WooHoo!

Sigh.... :(

Exactly same card as mine last only a month after I bought it but I am still trying to contact BFG for RMA the card. :(

It definitely looks better. I just thought a bunch of people here mentioned it didn't work very well compared to the reference cooler. Like I said though, I could be wrong and heh, I don't feel like searching that far back to find out for sure or not. :)
