Now if they'll just incorporate this tech to other major sports.

One of the reasons that soccer/non-american football has such good moments is because it all depends on human judgement from the referee. I'd rather have moments when he calls a wrong one rather than rely on technical evidence, because that's what soccer is all about. I have a bad feeling that stuff like this can just lead to things like mechanized soccer where only the person who spends more money on the team can win (case in point, Real Madrid is "technically" best team in Europe, but will probably not win Champions' League, or that Greece won Euro2004 even though they're ranked low compared to others like Italy or Germany).

I can appreciate that. I played soccer for years. It's obviously a debatable topic. One could take your argument and say that artificial lighting ads a technical aspect that detracts from the purity of the sport. I don't see how team capital (or lack thereof) would affect this...no more than money that NBA or NFL teams has any influence on instant replay results.

I was talking about the consequences of MORE stuff like this in soccer. I think it'll be ok when they stop at this. When they start giving special TV to the referee so he can call the play "according to the book" or things like that, that's when I'll start getting pissed off.

Ah, yeah I would agree. Things like this could easily go too far. :)

It would be easier if they had 2 extra offcials at the goal line :D

But this is good way for those disputive goals....and I think video replays are not the way to go, it would slow down the game too much!

We lost in the Regional a few years back due to a 'Golden Goal.' We actually won the game in regulation by one goal as two goals were not acknowledged by the Referee. Both had hit a back support cross rail just under the top cross-bar and careemed out without the Ref or linesman noticing. On the video you could actually see the ball clearly in the goal. Disappointing finnish with a 15-2 record and top ten in the state. :(

Ya I am all for the chip in the ball thing but if we started doing them video replays like NFL, Cricket...a footy game would last 150 mins intead of 105min (including half time). That would slow thing down too much, playes would be cooled off and more chance of injury etc.
