Just got a PNY 6800GT as a gift and this card is really something. I can run RTCW, RTCW ET, NWN at 2048x1536 and most other games. Newer games are CPU limited like HL2 - 1600x1200, Doom3 1152x864 etc. I really don't see the need to over clock it but I did auto-detect my settings at 392/1.07 and I tried it at 400/1.10 on Painkiller, UT2004 for about 15 minutes each with no problems. I checked my temps tabs afterwards and it reported 74/43, runs around 64/38 at stock speeds. I'm not planning on O/Cing it but for future reference would like to how hot can the card get safely?

The card's threshold is something like 115 degrees; however, to be safe, I think most people would recommend keeping it below 80 degrees at full load. My card does 74 degrees at full load, I wouldn't be too worried, that most likely has to do with airflow than anything else.

No more than 90 should be safe .

i remember reaching 97C on my 5950U & everything was stable :D

I'll wait till summer and see what temps I get when O/Cing then but looks promising for now with stock cooler.

Thanks

127 C

Hey that's the threshold ain't it. But anyways, anything above 85 C and you should be worried.

My card ran at the same temps at default speeds as it does overclocked to 370/1020. It's 64 degrees idle and about 81 degrees under heavy load.

My BFG 6800 GT OC, runs under load at about 65 degrees, idle at 55. It has the stock duel fan settup that BFG comes with. That's with the Official or Official Beta driver. And as has been mentioned here many times before, add about ten degrees to that with the latest beta drivers, idle and load. My threshold is set at 120.

You shouldn't check the temp afterwards, once you exit out the temperatures drop really fast. To get a correct 'load' temperature, have something that's demanding run in windowed mode (like rthdribl (http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa)), and check temperature while that's running.

My card idles at about 61*C and at load, is about 80*C. I am in the tropics though.
