I would like the 6800GT but I've never been able to pull myself to spend over $500 CND on a graphics card so Im opting for the 6600GT. If I just stick to 1024 for all my games with no AA or AF but 80% of the settings on high, how well do you think this card is going to fare in the newer games, Brother in Arms mainly?

Brothers in Arms uses the Unreal Engine 2.5 (Pariah, Splinter Cell 3, SWAT 4) so I don't think there will be any major problem with it. At 1024x768 the card is quite capable of using AA and AF with little performance hit.

More memory and a wider datapath (256bit) start to make the difference at higher resolutions.

Personally I wouldnt worry. New games you probably wont want to run above 1156x864 with 4xAA/16xAF. Old games can easily go up to 1600x1200 with moderate amounts of Anti Aliasing. The question is. What are you concerned about? Playing @ 1600x1200 with 4xAA? Then you have a reason to be concerned. Playing @ 1024x768 with 4x/Moderate AF? I wouldnt worry about it. At least for a while anyway. I have seen people with 9600 Pro's still chugging along games fine @ 800x600/1024x768 with low amounts of AA/AF.

It all comes down too how acceptable IQ/Performance is too you. Hell if you dont mind playing @ 640x480 your card has years of life left. Fortunately PC games are tweakable. Usually you can make adjustments that result in large performance increases at the loss of minimal image quality. Lower your resolution, Lower your anti aliasing by one setting. Lower texture detail from very high to high. Anyway. You wouldnt believe how many people I know who play on Geforce FX 5200 AGP 128 bit cards and are happy as hell.

i have been up pretty much all night testing a slew of games with my MSI 6600GT from Doom 3 to Half-Life 2 to NFSU2, etc. (at 1024 x 768) and its a VERY capable card even with no OCing yet.

paired with a somewhat decent system the card will last you for a while. have no worries.

I actually prefer to play games at 1600X1200 without AA/AF. Everything seems to play fine and the increased resolution makes jaggies less noticeable. I was worried about HL2 so I dropped it down and played it at 1280X720 (on my projector..WOOT!!!) with no AA, but with AF set at 16X. Game looked sick and maintained a minimum of 40+ fps with the norm being around 60fps. If not for GT4, right now I'd be playing that one again. :D

I actually ordered the XFX 6800GT today. I was going back and forth between the 6600gt and the 6800gt but then my tax return came in :D
