I watched The Screen Savers the other night, and they were covering the Computer Developers Forum, and they had Forza Motorsports on the show.

[insert badnews]

For XBOX, PS2, and PC, if you want to upgrade your car, you will have to PAY a fee to have access to upgrade parts on your game. [/insert badnews]

as reported by Kevin Periera...this sucks

One more bad news if you didnt know..Forza is exclusive to the XBox.

Now I'm absolutely going to buy a PS2 and Gran Turismo 4. I was kind of waffling because of Forza but since this has come to pass, I'll be skipping it.

I played a demo of Forza and GT 4 just feels a lot better. Forza feels like it chugs too much and the handling does not feel right.

Alright, there is alot of miss information here.
1.) Yes Forza is for XBox only (maybe Xbox2....who knows)
2.) The only parts/upgrades that you pay for a super specialized, custom designed cars. This option is for people who wish to have a truly unique car when racing online. Otherwise, standard ingame car upgrades are availiable in game just like GT4.
3.) Forza = Xbox only, GT4 = PS2 only....therefor they do compete with eachother. Don't say that Froza cannot compete with GT4 because its on Xbox only, GT4 is PS2 only. The point of the competition is to try to swing undecided gamers over to Xbox or PS2.

Now for my two cents.
I believe that Forza will be a very strong contender:
- Customize look of vehical -- just like NFS Underground 2 (add decals, and custom body parts)
- Vehicals take visual damage. Rather than simply bumping off other cars and walls and nothing happening besides loss of speed (GT4), in Froza your car takes visual and physical damage. Also, with the physics engine implemented in the game, cars can actually crash with eachother instead of bumping off eachother. For a gamer who wants realism in his racing games, this is a major factor.
- Various and diversified game modes, and oh yea.....ONLINE PLAY. Forza wins hands down in the various game modes and online play...GT4 has some poorly implemented online play that can only be achieved by attaching your PS2 to your computer or knowing 8 other people who want to race at the same time you do...possible...but not likely to happen often.

I didn't realize having online = better game... I would much rather have a GOOD game with no online, rather than a crappy game with online (which will be crappy because the game sucks).

To be able to play a game online is a feature highly reguarded and saught after by todays developers and gamers. Yes, if a game sucks and still has online play, that won't make the game any better. But, if the game is very good, like is suspect forza will be considering all the previews and gameplay videos i have seen, then the addition of online play is a very good one. The online play will add longevity to the game. Therefore, if the game is already very good and it has the addition of a solid online component then the game would be alot better for it.

This information sounds very fishy. First of all, Forza is an Xbox exclusive, it's not coming to PC or PS2. And that would be highly suspect of MS charging money for ANY upgrade. It's probably going to be something similar to the PGR2 boost packs. You get 230 cars and 20 upgrades for each car. But you want another extra 5 cars and 10 upgrades, pay 5 bucks and that's it.

The good news is that if you have a modded Xbox (like I do), if a booster pack does come out or they release upgrades you have to pay for online, you can just get them for free, but you won't be able to play online with them (not on Live at least).

Holy thread resurrection!

Buy this game if you have an Xbox and Xbox Live. Do it now.

05-14-05, 11:57 AM
do you have to pay?

05-14-05, 12:14 PM
I don't know what that article is talking about, but no, you don't have to pay for any upgrades to your cars. Perhaps if there are new cars offered by Microsoft down the road you'll have to pay to download them, but that's the only thing I can figure.

I love this game! About paying for cars online, I think there talking about like when you do a custom design on a car (paint and decals) you have the option to sell to someone over xbox live, and you pay for for it with your credits.
This game is certainly fun, and it's almost like NFSU2 meets GT4, the best part about the game imo is the engine swaps!
69 Camaro's with LS1's or LS6's in them kick ass!

The online component certainly is deep. It definitely gives it the edge over GT4. It doesn't have the number of cars, but the ability to sell your cars online (it even tells you how many owners a particular car has had!) and create your own car clubs really kicks ass.

Well, looks like I jumped on this band wagon late but oh well. I was waiting for it to be available at work (Blockbuster) but the person that has it probably stole it so I went ahead and bought it. I must say that this beats GT4 any day and this is coming from a GT fan since the original! This is a definite recommendation for any racing game fans.

Oh ya Forza Motorsports blows GT4 out of the water anyday. I dont' see why people would complain about paying for special upgrades online when tons of people pay monthly fees of $15-20 bucks to play MMORPGs or similar games to those.
