Ok i'm surprsied with this Source engine powered game .
at first when i tried the game on in my 2 older PCs (see sig) .. it ran fine indoors , but the outdoor performance was ugly ! .. hovering between 18-20fps whenever you are in an outdoor area whatever the res or settings you play the game at .
on 3 PCs i played the game in the outdoors avarage was ~ 20fps .
thats on P4:3Ghz with 6800GT@U , X800XT(480/500) & in the other PC which is P4:3.4Ghz with X800XT-PE . actually the XT-PE was even a little worse than the GT .

So when i got my SLI rig up & running (AMD 4000+/6800GT SLI) i came to test this game & all of a sudden my outdoors performance jumped to a whooping 35+fps !!! the game is finally smooth .
first i thought its the SLI power , but it dosent look like it because its the same performance when i switch to single mode !
could it be possible that the outdoor scene was CPU limited ?? & now with the AMD 4000+ that has changed ??
i like to hear some explenation on that .

next i tried the indoors performance which was indeed affected by the SLI config .. i took the first scene in the game as a benchmarking point using FRAPS & lets see what we got :

2005-03-12 10:34:05 - vampire (P4:3.0Ghz / X800XT@480/500)
Frames: 3206 - Time: 55379ms - Avg: 57.892 - Min: 43 - Max: 71

2005-01-03 02:23:30 - vampire (AMD 64 4000+ / 6800GT)
Frames: 4598 - Time: 55381ms - Avg: 83.025 - Min: 59 - Max: 112

2005-01-03 02:27:48 - vampire (AMD 64 4000+ / 6800GT SLI)
Frames: 5240 - Time: 55635ms - Avg: 94.185 - Min: 72 - Max: 110

as you can see the avarage indeed increased with SLI & most important the Min which rasied from 59fps tp 72fps .

Definetely, the entire Source engine is a real CPU hog

Thats what i'm thinking too . i'm really glad that i have gone AMD this time :D
