is anyone else disappointed in Granite Bay's performance?

it's dual channel DDR266 only performs as well as single channel DDR333. even though it has the same theoretical bandwidth as PC1066 RDRAM it still lags behind.

kinda makes you wonder why Intel didn't just opt for dual channel DDR333.

Springdale and Canterwood will fit the bill with Dual-Channel DDR400 support as well as support for the new 800MHz FSB P4's...Look for those around Feb/March....well ahead of schedule...

What do you think are the odds that my pc2700 will work in dual channel config with these boards? Pretty good?

Cuz it doesn't overclock that well, doesn't have HT like they said it did and doesn't support 3.06 Ghz P4 like was advertised. AGP 8x doesn't work right with my revision and now I can't run CAS 2 with my memory ever since I flashed an updated bios.

Sounds disappointing to me... I had a stint with the 648 chipset as well and came away pretty burned. The p4s8x was a real stinker and although the gigabyte 8sg667 got rave reviews I still ran into serious instability issues (infinite loop BSOD). Ever since getting an 845PE things have been great. The 8x support on the 648 appears to be flakey at best.

I thought Granite Bay was a pretty big disappointment as well. For its performance and lack of PC2700 support, the darn thing should have shipped months ago.

Agreed, it's to late for it to really be worth bothering with. Might as well wait for the newer intel chipsets coming out that will support 800mhz FSB pentium 4's and dual channel pc2700...

The only thing that makes the granite bay OK is the fact that nobody needs more than dual channel pc2100 right now. It provides enough bandwidth to saturate the current pentium 4's...

wouldn't an 800MHz bus take advantage of dual channel PC3200 and not PC2700?

also, Granite Bay and its dual channel PC2100 theoretically provides enough bandwidth to saturate the current P4s, but we have seen that it does not hold up to PC1066 RDRAM. also, a solution with single channel PC2700 performs at the same level.

this can lead to several conclusions, either that the memory controller of Granite Bay is not as optimized as it could/should be, or that there is some increased overhead with dual channel controllers where you would need in excess of the bus bandwidth to attain maximum performance. personally i think it's probably a weak controller.

To answer the question you posed in the first part of your post it would take advantage of both. However, w/dual pc3200 there would be more to take advantage of in the first place.

So granite bay and dual 2100 can't hang with pc1066 rdram? Definitely going to have to pass on it then. Talk about disappointing...
