A 800.00 Extreme 6800 ultra PCI-E with freaking 800Mhz DDR ram?

I think they have lost there minds at Asus.
They will slap DDR3 on a regular 6800 and then
put cheapass 800mhz DDR1 on a card that suppose to be a EE.
Man what a rip off.
Stay away from asus. :(

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&AFFIL=nvnews&NR=1&Product_Code=190174

There is no listing on Asus's website about the EE 6800u.
But many retailers have it listed. All say 800Mhz DDR memory.
Asus must set there price on the speed memory these days.
800mhz = 800.00 bucks. :angel:

its not 800Mhz real / 1600Mhz effective?
DDR sort of works that way.. prolly is GDDR3..

edit:
couldnt find any ultra extreme on ASUS own site tho..
Dunno how the yeilds are on that kind of RAM, heard there were in existance a while back but havent heard any developments of that since..

Man leave it to asus to make a
EE card with 450 core and then
cripple it with 800mhz memory.

This is there top of the line SLI card.
I wonder if they went with
cooler DDR because of heat issues
of using it in SLI.
It makes no since to me at all. :thumbdwn:

Isnt GDDR3 supposed to be cooler running then DDR?
or that was just compared to DDR2 perhaps..

Yeah the general impression on ASUS, atleast with the GF6 series is that they are making some odd choices..
wasnt there some deal with "fake" GTs or something aswell.. damn my memory hehe..

Yeah they have a model that is called a GT, but is actually a 6800 w/128 megs of DDR1 running at GT speeds..

that cant be real
That's what I was thinking too, but they DO have the 400 (800MHz effective) which makes it harder to believe it was a mistake...

This is a review of the Asus 6800 Ultra Extreme PCI-e
http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=6800upcie&page=1&cookie%5Ftest=1

Either this review is incorrect or whoever wrote that summary messed up with the specs

yeah Im starting to think its a simple misprint on monarchcomputers.com homepage..
1. its bizzare and wierd.
2. the review msxyz linked, which shows a more reasonable 1.1Ghz GDDR3

It couldn't possibly be that since it's not Asus's website that Monarch screwed up? Naww... that'd make too much sense. The fact that the name of the product indicates (G)DDR3 while the specs only list DDR doesn't mean anything, Asus have completely lost their minds!

EVERY retailer has it listed as 800mhz.
Not just monarch.

yea the asus line of 6800 is truly messed up.

First for the ultra part there's the Deluxe (loud single slot copper cooler, GTish) and non-deluxe--> reference double slot cooler.

Next there's the 6800GE instead of a GT, which only feature 12 pipe, but sells as expensive as a GT

and then there's the 6800GT with only 128mb of DDR1. Finally they realized something and now starting to make 256mb regular GTs.

So yea, now a UEE with 800mhz DDR?? WTF!! someone in asus must had a brain surgery.

Just on a side note: at my university (Queen's), there's the EngSoc-->Engineering society, ComSoc-->Commerce Society and ASUS-->Arts&science UNDERGRAD society: Guess they wouldn't want to call themselfs ASS-->Arts&Science Society for a reason. :D

Yeah they have a model that is called a GT, but is actually a 6800 w/128 megs of DDR1 running at GT speeds..Yea, and they strongly imply that it's a 16 piper on the box.

Because of this tricky marketing behavior, I think I'll stay away from Asus. You never really know what you're getting.

no 128 = 128mb + 16 pipe, 256 =256mb + 16 pipe

My last card was an asus.
It was the 5900U. I flashed
it to a 5950 and it's still running today.
But there custom cooler ran HOT HOT HOT.
I will never buy a Asus videocard again.
