I am debating... I want a new Proc, but what do you guys think about this

Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester

Dual core Athlon 64. (but i know this is a wait though)

I'd stick with what you have for now. If it were me... A 400MHz leap isn't going to be night/day (3000-3500) IMO and you might as well just save the $$...

That said if you have money to burn... ;) Then get a 4000+. :D

Yeah, I agree...the difference between the 3000 and 3500 just isn't worth the price. hell, I don't even think the 3200 is worth an extra $50 when it's only 200MHz faster (an easy OC).

Why not get a second (LCD) monitor with that money instead?

Two monitors is teh 4w3s0m3

I don't plan to upgrade till dualcore becomes fairly common.

Well, considering GF3 was a beast... backed by a powerful CPU I imagine it could still run most, if not all games pretty well. My ti4200 still does.

its not that i have money to blow, but i would raise the funds for something new. but i wasnt sure if a 3500 would be wirth it. i have seen info around the web. i cant afford a 4000+ (BUT IT WOULD BE NICE) so.. i think my best course would be to wait till the athlons become dual core and then hope that my 939 board will play nice.

I'm going to go dual core AMD64.
I've been doing a LOT of research and
AMD is going to kick intels butt in
dual core cpu's for some time to come.

Will current games run faster on dual cores or do they have to be optimised?

An application has to be written to take advantage of the second core. If apps simply ran faster on a dual core, Intel would be killing AMD in all tests because of hyperthreading.

yea I think the Intel 8xx Xtreme Edition is going to be one big mofo: dualcore (prescott 1mb) with HT on a 1066FSB! that will chug through a lot of data fast, especially in encoding. Too bad AMD doesn't have hyper threading.

but remember, that AMD doesnt need hyperthreading. Their procs are so effeicient that HT wasnt needed. and HT is only useful when an app knows it is there. so if i play games, ht isnt used cause games only understand one core. windows likes 2 though.

not if the application could take advantage of more than 2 cores, then the P4 will shine with HT.

yea haven't got a chance (or $$$) to dump this buddy yet, hopefully soon. It's been with me since way back in 2001 when the Geforce 4 just came out. Goddam card is solid, stupid fan died like twice, but the card is still running solid as a brick.

me 2! but i had a geForce 3 until i got the 6800GT....the geforce 3 was one hell of a card....ran everything i threw at it with no problems until the middle of last year when it started to show its age....still working on my old rig....
